Ripped out all the electronics and replaced them with newer ones. Really overkill but it gives you a sense of security when patrolling the depths. The Gov is lowering the lake to work on the dam. With the water getting shallow, a 7 footer like this can find the bottom easily if you are not careful. Pic one Docked, ready to head out

Been a year since I ran her. A bad back and lack of water has kept the boat at dry dock. Considered selling the boat and getting a more managable size.

The U-Boat is 84 inches long. Thats a 6 foot bench its on. Had dual water tight containers. The rear main one is a D&E 3.5 mod 2 which runs everything aft of the conning Tower, motors, ballast tank. The front one with its own reciever, runs everything forward of the tower. Lights, sound board, retractable snorkel and torpedoes. Also runs the front planes which are in unison with the stern planes. The separate WTC not only aloows you to run more "stuff" but keeps me from having to run a long pushrod to the forward planes.

The boat was built as the U-480,VIIC. I always felt U-boats should have lots of guns and sharp stuff so I added the bow and bottom net cutters. They did away with them later in the war but I just like the look of them. I had 2 other simular U-Boats and a box full of scale accessories, so I added some extras.

Max depth of most subs in this class is determined by radio reception, visability and how much guts you have. Clear, fresh water is best with murky water, pool water being less. I regularly ran from periscope depth to 3 or 4 feet. Any deeper its hard to see so whats the point. The sub has a failsafe which in case you loose signal, it blows the ballast tank which surfaces the sub like a cork. Its probably the most single important unit on the boat.

JIMJAM,
Do you still want to sell the boat? If so, would you please email me.
My email addy is mickm@bayou.com.
I am interested in a finshed u-boat to save time. Since I am very new to
this hobby.
Thanks,
mickm

Get alot of request for a pic of the guts. Deck is secured by 2 bolts and simply lifts off. The water tight container is easily taken out by disconnecting the drive shafts.

Closer pic of the WTC. Forward empty section is the ballast tank area. It fills with water which adds weight to the boat allowing it to dive easier. By adding or taking off lead weight to the boat, you can change how low the boat will sink to when the tank is flooded. To be safe, I currently have the boat so when the tank is full, the waterline is at the top of the conning tower. In the same section, a brass tank holds propel, or in my case, Dust Off. Enough to "blow" the tank or empty it approx 15 times. The rear dry section houses the electronics.
