Through some sort of accident, discovered a 6 axis single chip IMU would probably arrive by 2008 and probably for under $100. A mass produced, autonomous Picco-Z isn't far off. The skies are going to change real fast when that happens.

I've seen that there is a lot of work at universities to make a 3 axis gyro, and the 3 axis accelerometers are available now, so I always expected the 3 axis imu was nearby. Don't know about the required filtering though.

I'm note sure if this is the same thing or not but they offer a single chip 3 axis gyro, 3 axis accelerometer AND 3 axis magnetometer. Memsense (http://www.memsense.com/). I think the going price is $1200 per chip/module.

It would be great if you could site your source of this information on the single chip IMU.
Dont forget the sensors are only half the package its the Kalman filter that makes thier info usable is another half.

Don't think you are going to get the KF on a chip. It makes the sensor chip too specialized.

The product won't have an integrated microprocessor.

Jack,
Didn't see any mention of anything other than gyros at Invensense.
