Hey Lee,

I would consider not taking electrics at all. Unless it's a tug tow plane. One of our main events, 4 years ago. Had a electric rc plane crash on the side of the slope. And started a grass fire. Had to Evac the whole area of 25 people, cars ,and airplnes. There's usually high winds and alot of dry weeds. I caution you, and might be turned down out their of electrics. just to let you know on days that are slope and scale events, they have the majority of the right of way when rig running along the slope.

The only reason is I like to keep this site in use with the County Rangers for everybody.

Are you talking about attending a specific scale event or just general flying there as a rule ??

Huh ?? whatchoo talkin about willis  :p

I was just trying to find out if Lee was coming up from SoCal (Garbage grove per his sig...my home town btw and where I spent the first 17 years of my life :p ) to attend a specific event...or if he's just going to be in the area and wants to fly on some day where general sport flying might be the rule of the day.....

As far as I know there are no restrictions on electric powered flight at Los Banos or any other recognized flying site...fuel powered yes.But I think that has as much to do with noise and annoyance as anything.
We have flown electrics of all types on dead wind days at Del Valle for years now without a single incident of fire... except the one guy years ago who nearly burned his car up while charging batteries in his engine compartment
I have also flown electrics at Los Banos without so much as a peep from anyone except maybe "Holy **** did you see that thing go " :D

As far as Tim's answer I'm hoping he's talking about specific days because honestly...a 10s2p powered 3000 watt tow plane is less dangerous than a park flyer ??
What about the receiver packs and their potential dangers....I have 3 2400 mah nimh's in my unfinished 6 m Nimbus...I think that in a severe crash there's a possibilty that those packs could get tangled up and start a heck of a nice electrical fire....multiply that by a boatload of planes at say the Los Banos Scale Meet.....quite a fire risk if you ask me....maybe I should point that out to the Park Rangers next time I'm in the area so they're fully apprised of all the liabilities :p
j/k but hopefully you get my drift ;)

Steve :D

Hi! I'am talking about the scale event in April. I'm going to take my Super Sinbad, and I wanted to know what other planes to bring. Hand launch, DAW 126-2M, Oly II, freeflight hand chuckie or what!
Now I know, NO Electrics. I remember the fire now. It makes sense with all that grass. Thanks!

Hey Lee, for after hours fun definitely bring some sport planes to fly around. If it's light the sky is full of gentle lady's oly's, and other floaters. Once the switch get's flipped and the wind comes up you can fly whatever.

I'll be heading up Thursday afternoon so I'll definitely be bringing the full quiver for Thursday evening and Friday flying too. The actual event is Saturday and Sunday so that's when it's scale only during the day.

I was talking about tomorrow on the 13th of january. I just want to point out thats all. I was at the Main event 4 years ago when that fire happen. And I was 20ft from the Flames. That's why I'm a little carefull. CDF took an Half hour to get their from the volenteer staff.

know for the scale event yes I agree what Hutch's talked about. ( above post)

Tim

i just want everyone to have fun.

I went to Banos last year and flew pleny of electrics with no problems. My local club from Lilly Chappel will be bringing two electric tugs also-- we used a Cub electric last time to tow a lot of planes. It's like anything--- care has to be taken to fly safely-- and electrics are safe. The fire was an unusual situation-- and shouldn't occur again. I'll have F5 B style planes and smaller pylon electrics to fly--as well as slopers and scale planes for towing. I bring it all!!!! That's what makes Banos soo much fun!!!
IMHO

You can fly whatever you want, whenever you want at any time at Los Banos. If you are talking about the 21st and 22nd of April, SBSS is holding a SCALE SAILPLANE EVENT on that weekend for SCALE SAILPLANE flyers. During those few hours of the event it's SCALE only! BEFORE and AFTER the event fly what you want.

Long ago in an age past, Scale guys had a huge sense of humor induced to them:
A buddy at Torrey brought a 4:1 scale glider. That is 4x bigger scale...

It won the "people's choice" for the walk-around ballot of what everyone thought was the coolest plane...

Anyone wanna guess what it was?
Anyone want to build one out for this event?

Oh, yeah, it was red (felt pen application) and natural balsa, called a Starfire or Jetfire - I forget which... and its slope performance was fantastic!

Seeya there with a Mosquito 1.5 and/or more.

Was that Ray Smiths AJ Interceptors? I have that pic somewhere. Somebody is missing a marketing opportunity here...

Oh damn, ya' know, I now think it was- I had fogged the memories into thinking it was a Guillows...I guess that's what you get with age. He had two if I recall, one each the red and the blue, fully symetrical wing?, fuse was basically a pair of sheets with a seperator wide enough for servos and a ?canon? reciever, wing built pretty much the same - though I'm trying to remember if he said whether he tried one sparless or not.

And yeah, if someone kitted a 4x interceptor I'd go for one.

And you say you have a pic? cool - post it if you can - mine were at my dad's in Julian - lost in the fires.

Hey, I have a Hobby Lobby (Gebhardt) Kelly, electrified - is that scale enough for this event? It's a better airfoil than than the mosquito. Otherwise I guees I''ll just have to bring the hanger and leave innapropriate ones in the truck.

I just got back but didn't take many pics.

Friday. Thermal and Aerotow, no slope lift to speak of. Lots of cool electrics and such flying around.

Saturday. Aerotow all morning until 2pm when the switch was thrown and a 20mph wind kicked up. Then the slope fun begun!. Lots of slope action with like 10 big scale planes playing dodge-em... Good fun, tore it up with my DG-505 and my big Fox.

Sunday....I dunno, I got up and it was raining so I left.

Here's how much crap you can stuff into a ML-350 if you are motivated ;)

Brian, how did you like the Fox? Seems like it was flying well? Did you aerotow it at all?
