I have used light weight spackle. I have also used the Elmers wood filler which matches the color of balsa very nicely. It can be thinned with water and sands very nicely. One thing about the light weight spackle is you can mix it with water based polyurethane. This combo makes a great balsa filler which is very light and sands well.

I'd add a vote for the light weight spackle.

Does the polyurethane mix work well on EPP for finishing slopers?

Dephela;
Never used it on EPP although it may be worth a try.

If youre using it on balsa, use the "Red Devil" brand. I bought some one day when I couldnt find my tub of the generic stuff I bought, and it was a night and day difference. They must use either smaller, or softer microballons in it, (phenolic, perhaps?) as it sands so fine. Really a big difference.
