I've been building wooden models, powered and display for 60+ years, but no sail. My wife gave me an 18" RTR R/C sailboat for Christmas. I found it to be a lot of fun to sail on my little pond. I've just finished my latest project, a Cranberry Lobster Yacht, and would like to build a sailboat. I'm looking in the 1 meter size, but I can't find anything on line except plastic hulled boats. They don't show me much. I can't believe some of them cost that much for something punched out by the hundreds or thousands by a computerized machine. Just old fashioned. Building it is as least as much fun as sailing, running it. Does anyone know of decent, all wood kits in this size?

I don't know of any kits, but there are plans out there. Try http://modelyacht.org (AMYA web site) and click the link to "Boats" then select "Class Page" scroll down to the IOM or the US One Meter description and go to their class page. There are plans for some of the older designs there.

I also don't know of kits. Several people in Europe scratch build IOMs (International One Meters) out of wood. Here are a couple of links about the Triple Crown, a recent Graham Bantok design:

Google up 'Traplet Publications'. There are a wide variety of plans available if you use their own internal search engine. Type in 'Model Yacht Plans'
