I have a [new] Novak XRS speed controller in an 1/18 buggy. I raced it
once and had trouble losing power. The following day the car seemed to
run well but then the motor suddenly shorted and died. I took it apart
and rewound it, only to have the same thing happen again. Thinking it
was just my clumsy repair at fault I rewound it again and installed it
in the car. It ran flawlessly for about 20 minutes and then burned up
again.
I bought a new motor and installed it in the car being careful to make
sure everything was set up properly. When I connected the battery (with
the ESC turned off) the motor ran at about 50% speed and could not be
stopped. With the ESC powered on the motor can be slowed and
accelerated but never stopped. I tried reprogramming the ESC and
nothing changed. Both the battery and the ESC became very hot in just a
few seconds of operation leading me to believe there is a short
somewhere inside the ESC.
Does anyone have experience with this sort of behaviour?
