View Full Version : Discussion Berg 4L in Bubble Dancer

I'm working to standardize receivers in my various planes. For the full house I am using the JR 790. Does anyone have experience with the Berg 4L in RES competition ships -- specifically, is it trustworthy in a crowded frequency environment and does it have range adequate for competition?
The reason I am considering it for the BD is that I use a very low cross section fuselage and the HITEC electron is a tight fit -- most other receivers are even worse. I am considering mounting the receiver in the wing because it is light weight and to get the antenna away from the carbon fuse. I've never had any trouble, but I would like more security in this respect.

I use the Berg 4L in my Blaster DLG. At at contest with lots of fliers, out "long and low", and have never seen a glitch. Highly recommended.

hi...my flying buddy gene has flown one all last year in his bubble dancer....and he has ranged far and high and no problem...even when our field get crowded.....in fact i will be installing one in my new super ava...and my new bubble dancer which is under construction....

Wow, you must have a really small fuselage. I built my pod to the plans and I used a Hitec supreme in my BD.
In my Allegro Lite, I have used the JR 700 and the JR RS6UL. The RS6UL is quite tiny (the shrink wrapped type tiny) and should fit in some pretty small fuselages. Heck, it will even fit in 24 mm rocket tubing for my RCRGs that have the servos in the wing because they certianly would not fit in 24 mm tubing. How much smaller than that is your BD's pod?

The fuselage not only has a pretty small cross section but it has limited fore and aft space for the radio forward of the servos. Aft of the servos is reserved for a picolario and ballast. I have the JR 610 you refer to and it fits more or less as well as the Electron in the existing location.
My ancillary objectives are to move a very light receiver to the wing so I can change crystals by simply opening the spoiler and to move the picolario to the location currently occupied by the receiver so I can get to it to change frequencies easily if the need arises. With all of this done, I will be able to increase the total ballast I can carry and change my ballast system to make it easier to add or remove ballast.

That is interesting. I guess perhaps I had a smaller battery in my BD pod or perhaps more likely it was setup a bit different than the one you built. Mine was divided by a fuselage bulkhead that had the servos, then hitec RX, then ~600 mA 4 cell pack. Sort of per the plans. I never ballested the thing or ran any telemetry. I could imagine how a different setup could be quite a bit tighter for a RX though, especially if you had some kind of ballast system that was accessed via the nose hatch/cone and you had the servos further forward.

Cool. I had looked at your pod plans before but that was a long time ago on the Allegro Yahoo group. I can see where space would be tight, especially if you are trying to move the Pic to the forward area. Good luck with your change in configuration.
