I am trying to decide what radio to put in my Raptor 30. I have it narrowed between the Futaba 7CHP & the Spektrum DX7. Any thoughts on which one I should go with?

If you don't get the Spektrum, get something that takes a module. I have a 9C for my Raptor, and I intend to add a 2.4GHz module to it when one that I like becomes available. JR, Hitec, and Futaba all have radios that take modules.

dx7, 9303 (aka 9x2) and 9c are all similarl transmitters.

DX7 transmits on 2.4G, all others transmit on 72(FM), big difference, go with the DX7, no threats of being shot down by another TX on your frequency, big peace of mind, no more waiting for your freq pin, no more interference.

at the end of the day the dx7 is still just a 7channel tx with 7 channel software. Its quite limited in a number of areas.

and for that 7channel functionality your paying a fair bit over the odds.

take a look at where you fly. how busy is it are there lots of people sharing the channels or is there good frequency control?

if your park flying or fly at a site like above then the DX makes the logical choice. If not then one of the 9 channels is similar money and will be upgradeable to 2.4 at some point in the future.

I think allot of people have jumped on the 2.4GHz bandwagon without considering what Ade has said. One of the reasons 2.4GHz is no big deal for me, I fly at a field miles from nowhere, 50-60 members at any given time, less than half are regularly active, rarely more than two planes in the air at the same time, good freq. control, and only two or three other people fly on my channel. In four years, the guys on my channel have been at the field at the same time as me just a few times.

Some people have just the opposite. Lot's of people and lot's of interference.

Are they really coming out with a 2.4 g mod for the 9C? That would be great.

Supposedly: XPS, Futaba, and Hitec, all have something in the works.

The DX7 may be a bit limited in features, but the essentials are all there, and it has a truckload less latency than almost anything else. And its safety features are a big step forward.

Okay what are the "bells and whistles" on the 7CHP compared to the DX7? Are they about the same? I looked at the Futaba 9C, but unfortunatly that is way out of my price range for now. Thanks for all of the replies.

Nomadio just release news of a Full Range 2.4GHz radio. Not a good time to jump the gun. Especially with that goofy two piece receiver on the DX7. Allot changing in the radio market.

The price is not that much different. Servocity has a 9CHP for $329 with synth module. I think it's $319 fixed frequency. The DX7 is $350, so after buying a Rx for the 9C you are a little of $350 BUT, a better radio that can be upgraded to 2.4GHz...soon I hope.
