Here are is my collection of a bunch of different FPV videos. This will give you a really good idea of what is possible with FPV flying. I dont have any exotic gyros or anything, just a high quality camera pointed out the front of the plane. Using my Video Glasses, its as close as you will ever get to flying a plane without leaving the ground :D

The on-screen display is a real nice touch. It looks different from Vizion, am I correct?

I remember watching a clip (one of my highly ranked) where it was really well thought out and my friends and I thought it kept the audience watching. I think it was one of your production, regarding a E-Starter(?) chasing an SU jet. Anymore great vids for us to enjoy?

The GPS overlay board is from
http://www.icircuits.com/prod_osdgps.html
At 120 bucks, it works good, and the charactors are much more readable than the Vizion. It does not have the features of the Inspire, but for 120 bucks, its a good deal if you dont want to spend to much.

I am a complete newbie when it comes to video. My goal is to have a readout like that "GPS elevation, etc.." and I am wondering about set up. Can you give a rundown of parts used and how it is rigged up? I would want a real time transmit capability and the option of camera panning/tilt.
Thanks

Here are some of my old videos flying helicopter FPV. In all the cases it's pure FPV, including take offs and landings. For the winter flight and the moonlight flight I was actually sitting inside my car while piloting the heli. The heli (XCell gas) has Carvec stabilization system and it was used on portions of the first flight and most of the moonlight flight.

WOW guys, excellent close flying! What will you do next to wow us? Perhaps precision formation flying? Perhaps flying in a straight line but with Sergio flying upside down and on top of you, then tilting the cameras and looking at each other ( like in Top Gun ) or a game of chicken? To see who will move first while flying straight at each other? ;)

Well yesterday I set up a new personal record, 1,100m far. I didn´t want to go farther cause I didn´t feel comfortable to do it. I was getting some glitches with the r/c and the video was getting worse. I also put a video splitter instead of using my archos av 500 for av in and av out. The archos delays the image some times and once it cost me a crash on a take off. The patch was pointing the plane wrong because my new spotter didn´t get the explanation clear  (It was almost at 70º from the horizontal) too much for far flying
Also in the second part of the video I used the GP Patch from rc-cam´s web site instead of my CP Patch. It seems that GP Patch has more beamwidth but also worse gain. It´s good for flying around, better for long distances a CP Patch or a bi-quad.

Well yesterday I set up a new personal record, 1,100m far.
Its good to see that you are flying now :) Pointing a patch 70 degrees away from the plane will make your signal drop a huge amount. You should try it again, with a 14 dBI patch pointed directly at the plane, you will probably find no static at all in your picture at that distance, with 600 mW you should be able to do 4 KM or more if you get a high gain antenna pointed at the plane.

That´s right Jett, I´m going to try a bi-quad and a double bi-quad but the problem is how the spotter point the antenna in the right way because more than 600 m he wasn´t able to see the plane. Perhaps some autotracking antenna should do it right. The other problem that I´m having is some glitches with my r/c equipment (Futaba receiver and radio transmitter), at that distance if you see in the video the camera turns right suddenly due to them. The electronics of my plane and their placement pushing the range of the r/c down. Should try something to increase my range. :)

Most of the topics we start disappear after few week, because only four pages of topics are kept, you will not find the fifth page. But the topic are somewhere in the memory because when we do a search, they reappear. It's why I think a sticky on this topic will be good because everyone will post their videos at the same topic and do no start new one.

Nice setup....and nice video also. I was looking up the TP 3S2P 4200 pack on the Hobby Lobby website, and they indicate it is essentially two 2100 packs wired in parallel. I have several TP 2100 ProLite 3S packs, and was wondering if I could simply solder a harness that would allow two 2100 3S packs to be plugged in, and the output leads would still be just a single positive and a single ground, and the output voltage would still be 11.1, but the current capacity would now be doubled to 4200 mah. Does this sound like it would work correctly?
BTW: Does your setup use a single 4200 lipo to drive both ESC's, or is there a 4200 lipo per/ESC ? Also, about how much flight duration do you get from this setup when flying "normal"...i.e. not much aerobatic stuff?
Thx...

Sorry, I should have clarified. It's actually two 2100mAh packs wired in parallel, hence 4200mAh. Tie both positive leads together and both negatives together and you've now got a 3S2P pack. I thought about hard wiring them both together. But I use the packs individually for other planes. So I made a custom Deans adapter that I plug both into and has one set of output pins. This allows me to easily separate the packs for when I'm flying my other planes. I've got a picture of it somewhere. I'll try to find it.
The way I have it set up in my TwinStar, is both packs run together, then a single set of wires (+/-) runs up to the wing, where it splits again to each ESC in the wing pannels. There are several ways of configuring the power system, but I felt this was the best way to do it. You could run one dedicated pack to each ESC. However, I thought that there was the chance that one pack could drain faster than the other (espeically if one pack is in better condition than the other). This would cause problems with an offset thrust causing the plane to yaw. So it's better to run both motors off the same pack.
Flight duration? Hmm. I've gotten 15-20 minutes of spirited flying. At cruise throttle settings, I'm sure it would go over 30 minutes. It will cruise at 1/4 throttle. Yet it pulls 43Amps total at full throttle! So that severely limits your flying time.

Thx for the quick response. I will likely use the same approach. I want to use my 2100 lipo's for my other planes also, so I wanted to make sure it was ok to simply "plug" them into a custom-made deans harness. I didn't want to have to go buy a whole other set of 4200 lipo's....lots of $$$ to do that :)

That is a great way to do a Y connector. I would only suggest Epoxy though for gluing them together. Any soft glue would allow the connectors to move enough that it could break the solder joints over time. With hard epoxy, you dont have any stress on your solder joints.

Good point. You don't want those solder connections breaking loose. Mine is filled with epoxy, and should last a long time.

Well, I come Back to Spain from Argentina.
I had been invited to show the FPV in a great meeting: XIII Aeromodelling Festival Camilo Aldao ( Argentina ).
There was 1500 people, 300 models and 270 pilots.
The FPV was present!
Argentina is a country with a big development in Aeromodelling but the FPV is not know.
I called this Flight: "ARGENTINA 1000 MTS ( 3000 feets) Altitude NIGHT"
( I broke the FPV world night record??? )
Is the first FPV flight video in Argentina
Like the majority dont know about this country I will write a short description of the area.
The Festival was in the middle of "THE PAMPAS". It is the land of "the Gaucho" ( a cowboy) where the plain extends thousands of kilometers. Is like a "sea of green" of fertile land. You will see in the video the soybean´s plantations.
The next town closer was 30 Kms! ( 15 miles ). Was summer and the thermal pushed the model to the skies.
I hope you enjoy with this video ( 7 minutes ) from Argentina :D

Yeah not surprising though. Sergio's has always been intellectually advanced in this.
I wonder if JETPILOT has some videos of his high alt, long range flights. He always comes to my mind when it come to advance & extreme flying. It must be nice to have a fully loaded plane that returns to you in case you lose radio contact! :D

I have never had to use the auto feature to come back, something really bad would have to happen if I ever have to depend on that to get my plane back, it would give me a heart attack I think ;) But its nice to know its there if I need it. I will be posting some stuff here one day, I have lots of neat video you will love that is different from what I have posted in the past, its just a matter of getting it edited and posting it.

Nice! Welcome to the fun, Rob. Thinking of selling your Blade yet? I am.I don't plan on selling either of my BCP's or the HoneyBee Cool. I just couldn't! I will admit that since discovering fpv I don't fly anything else (occasionally the GWS TM400).
What equipment are you using, again?Easy Star
• Eflite "Six Series" 2700kv inrunner
• 40A Eflite ESC
• Master Airscrew 3-blade 6x4 Pusher Prop
• TP 2100 3S Prolite
• HS-81MG servos
• Berg 7P receiver
• 100mw video transmitter
• 1/3 CCD Sony board camera
• Homemade pan/tilt
• Anthony’s Head Tracker
• FH510 Video Headset
• Homemade Landing Gear (steerable tail)
• Futaba 9chp super synth

This thing has so much power it accelerates like a freakin' rocket during takeoff. The sound is awesome!

I will remember for ever my first FPV flight, me too my knees was shacking, I was exhaust after a 5 minutes flight. Because I got only two weeks of standard flying before FPV, it taked me a while before be confortable. The Easystar will help you a lot because the plane is reliable and hard to broke, I was using unreliable two stroke motor with 5 pounds planes, I was nervous never knowing when the motor will quit
I take-off again last Sunday for the first time since severals months. I made the few firsts flight of the CAP232. I was nervous too, I work since severals months on my two planes, and it was the second time I tried my new goggle inflight, the first time I crashed my planes in a tree and it end my flight season :p
The quality of the picture in the video goggle is very good and the quality of reception is awesome. I used a standard 3dbi antenna on the receiver, the planes stay in visual range.
I already fly during two years aerobatic planes using goggle, but the cams was fix, this year the cam is in the cockpit and move, it's a lot different, and a lot better. The goal is not to see things on the ground, it's 100% technic, I will practice to do perfect roll, loop, hammer head etc so I don't need to go far and I don't need a beautifull landscape to watch and I don't need perfect weather, it's very differents from the Easystar. I will also continue to make videos with my Easystar, with the new equipement,it open new feild to me.

Hey Rob,
I am sixty-nine and I've been flying since my early twenties. Amazingly enough I still fly with some of the guys I started out with, and have movies to prove it. I enjoy this sport just as much now as I ever did, except that my knees knock a bit less even though they creek more!
I get just as much kick out of my pico Tiger Moth as any of the bigger and hotter things I have to fly.
My Easy Star isn't all that super, only climbs at about 45°'s, but I am putting a couple of 3000 kv Aeon motors in my Twin Star to make up for it.
I think if you do something you like, you don't get tired of it. Winter is the proof of that! First sunny weekend day brings all of us out to the field just like it always did,.

Where are the triangles of the wings, have you removed them?
That´s a short landing area if you don´t use the road, and with the limited view from the cockpit has to be pretty dificult, good shot.

VRFlyer - Great job. That cockpit view is fantastic. Is that the stock canopy? It's very clear and undistorted.
And you know it's bad when you anticipate the eventual boredome.

Here's another fpv video of the EZ* at the local high school at dusk with calm winds. Knees were still shaking. I actually felt a little queazy. Not motion-sickness but just plain old nerves. While flying under the hood I had the sensation that I was standing on top of a telephone pole. I could feel my toes trying to anchor me to the ground. Very tiring. IT WAS AWESOME!!!

I'll bet that after you saw the video you were sorry you didn't do it via FPV.
Still, it pays to have a good video to familiarize yourself with what things look like from the on board camera, especially the landing part.

Very good video. Nice location to fly, it's beautifull and you have severals obstacles on the ground to fly around, it's not neccessary to use yourself as a target :)
Coolest landing never seen, but I hope never try it :)
I think your easystar don't have ailerons, with them the planes will be lot more controlabe, I will post my Easystar construction step today, the ailerons mod will be clearly decribe if you are interest to add it.

I know nothing about UK suppliers, but I think 500 mw is WAY in excess of what you are permitted in the UK. I also seem to have heard that Lawmate makes most of the rx's that everyone sells, and maybe the tx's too.
I've got mostly BWAV stuff and it all works just like it should. I've done most of my flying (video, but not all FPV) with 50 mw and that has carried me to the limit of visual range. I also just ordered some video gear from RCTech. Already have their head tracking goggles and they work fine. 10 mw is the limit in Switzerland and they do great with it.
