View Full Version : Discussion X-UFO transmitter signal to PPM

I was hoping to use my old X-UFO transmitter in combination with my (reflex) simulator. However it does not generate a standard PPM signal. Each edge seems to indicate a new channel while PPM indicates another channel with a fixed size pulse. The length of the data-pulses seem equivalent to PPM, 0.5 to 2 ms.
With a microcontroller translating should simple. Perhaps it is as easy as generating a negative fixed-size pulse each time the input signal changes. I feel like experimenting with it immediately but I fear I will again put much more time in it than foreseen. Perhaps somebody has a solution laying on a shelf?
Thanks,
Frederic

I just tried the simple approach of generating a pulse when the signal changes. The good news is that it works (with Reflex) :)
There is some "bad" news too... I was thinking, how is it possible they have a signal that is so close to standard PPM and so easily convertible? So I decided to continue searching for a real PPM signal, this time on the underside of the PCB; until now I have been searching the visible side. On the other side there are lots of SMD components and there I have found something that looks like PPM... :censored:

Hi Frederic,
did you test this signal?

I think, it's the correct PPM signal.

Possibly this is the same signal I had found on the other side of the PCB. I have a working solution now, be it much more complicated than needed. But your info can be handy for others trying to use their XUFO.
Thanks,
Frederic

Is there anyway to boost the signal on the ufo TX to get better range? I know nothing about this kind of stuff. I just don't want to shell out $200.00 bucks for a new TX.
Thanks,
John
