I was wanting to know what you all think would be a good first scale plane? I can only winch or hi-start, no aero tow or slope.

I have been looking at some of the 2-2.5 meter planes at ICare-rc.com and they have a couple that look nice, but 12-15oz wing loading make me worried that I will spend all my time launching.

What would be a good starter that would thermal nicely?

Thanks

Stay away from anything that is under 4 meters in span! The bigger they are, the more predictable they are.

I agree bigger is better. But do not be worried by higher wing loadings. These models are very efficient and the L/D ratio is much better. I flew my 4M discus at the weekend and its wingloading is 19.3 and later flew my Sophisticated lady at 7.3 and the Discus in very similar condittions gained a lot more height. This was slope soaring however I think it is valid for general flying.

Hope that helps.
