It's just a thought: the inexpensive PS3 controller supposed to have gyros and accelerometers. I am not sure if they have full 6 axis covered (as the name implies). I wonder if anybody has opened one up and looked inside?
It may be an interesting source for DIY INU parts, and at $49.99 price will be right.

Now that sparkfun.com has published an autopcy of Wii controller I suspect sixaxis is similar and has no gyros, only accelerometers. Oh well.
