Well I finally made it to this side of the pond. Ohio is much different than Germany....lol Hopefully we will get a house within the next month or so and then I can get back to building and working on the old Graupner I brought back with me.

Thanks all. I have relocated to the Lima Ohio area. I was over in Germany for the last 10 years. Never been to Ohio before but got a job so figured why not try it. Currently enjoying my retirement from the Army for the next 20 days and then it is back to work.
Here is the Graupner I am talking about http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=580213

exco,
Welcome to the Cleveland area. At least you arrived during some nice weather. I'm on the east side, not to far from CGbob. Check out the cleve model boat club site. I wil prob join this year myself. Most of the ponds they use are on the west side, closer to you. Again welcome to Cleveland. :) :) :)

Lima, Ohio.... Hmmmmm, I thought that town sounded familiar. I used to buy old military radio's and equipment from Fair Radio Sales. I wonder if they are still in buisness.

From what I have learned this place is actually getting smaller. We ended up buying a house roughly 15 miles North of Lima. The schools are better here and the crime rate is next to nothing. Our stuff arrives today from Germany so I will once again have all my toys. It is going to be like Christmas. Have yet to find anybody else here that is interested in boats. I have not even found the LHS.

Ah well Garmisch-Partenkirchen can breath a sigh of relief. You`ll miss the Zugspitzegruppe but you are close to the USAF Museum. Too bad we didn`t link-up during the mini RPV junket a couple of years ago.

I think you'll like your new location. Ohio folks are kind of friendly, and will make you feel welcome. :)
If you're all unpacked and settled in, you might think of visiting the Toledo Hobby Show in mid-April---. :D

Workshop is still a mess. Some boats still in boxes and still have not found a pond close to run in. Other than that I am still alive. We did get a 12x24 pool, not big but big enough to see how they float and even run the small lindberg tug in.
Hoping someone near Lima will see this and chime in. With gas prices the way they are don't want to drive 100 miles just to run with a club

Been to Lima several times, but its not too close! I'm in Louisville. How you enjoying the birthplace of some of America's greatest steam engines?

From what people tell me this use to be a great place. It is slowly killing itself. Many of the plants have closed resulting in unemployment for many. I am actually outside of Lima in a small rural community. Have made it up to lake Erie which is something I have always wanted to see. All in all we are happy here for the time, we both have good jobs and everyday is a day closer to retirement.

Years ago when I was into old military radios, there used to be a company by the name of Fair Radio Sales in Lima. Don't know if they are still in buisness but I always wanted to visit them.

Excotec, just about every city along the Great Lakes has suffered plant closings, and the resulting hardships that come with a stale economy. :(
I live near Buffalo, and the closing of Bethlehem Steel in the 1970's dealt a telling blow to the region. Now, GM is planning to close American Axle there, which will put more people out of work.
Consider yourself lucky if you have a fairly decent job, and you can see that
light at the end of the tunnel that spells "retirement"---. ;)
And that military pension isn't bad either---. :D

No doubt about it I feel good about my curent job. Basically doing the same thing I was in the military just as a civilian now. Workiing for Uncle Sam as a civilian sure is diferent than when I was active duty. Our current plan is to stay here until the son Graduates and then we will find a place to transfer to.

Well as you can see by the date we have been here over a year now. Still have not found another single person interested in boats. I have found a flying field but did not receive a warm welcome from them so back to square one. The desire to get back to building has gotten bad lately. Last night I started putting the workshop back together and plan on building something soon.
The job is still going good. I was actually promoted a few months ago and now work a normal Mon-Fri shift. Hopefully this will give me more time to find a pond. One thing I have noticed here in Ohio is most people have small backyard ponds; maybe I can work a deal out with one of them. We do have a reservoir in Ottawa but the banks are real steep and rocky, not good for trying to launch a model from.

Maybe not in Lima, but you are within an hour (or two) of several active clubs- Indy, Fort Wayne, Cleveland, and Maumee.

That I am. Need to figure out which one is the closest. I do have a trailer I pull behind the Goldwing that would carry a couple of boats and even with $4 gas I can still do 250 miles for $20 on the motorcycle :)
