View Full Version : Mosquito vs. Picco Z. Which is better?

I'm considering getting either a Mosquito or Picco Z for my teens for
Christmas. None of us has flown an rc copter before. Is there anybody
out there who's flown both (or either) of these and can tell me why you
like or recommend one over the other?

A picco z is only two function up and down and left and right tail,
forward speed is controlled by how much weight you put on the nose,
the Mosquito appears to have more control but I have only flown the
picco z but it does bounce quite well and I have yet to break it

The Mosquito does have three channels -- throttle, turning,
forward/backwards. The Picco Z only two -- throttle, turning.

I've had both. The Picco Z is as great as people say it is, and at
$30 it's a good deal to boot.

The Mosquito is not as good as the Picco Z. Having forward/reverse
control sounds good, but in practice it doesn't work very well, at
least on the Mosquito. And it's $70 -- a lot more money.

I disagree. I have both and found the exact opposite to be true. The
Picco-Z was a nightmare. Impossible to control and a total waste of
time. The Mosquito has longer run times (getting about 12 minutes from a
charge now that the unit has broken in) While it's true that the forward
flight of the Mosquito leaves something to be desired, if you take a
little time with it, you can make some inexpensive mods and have fairly
satisfying forward flight characteristics. It is FAR more stable than
the Picco-Z and with some practice, you can fly circuits. Not for
outdoors (either model). Your teen will enjoy the Mosquito a lot more in
my opinion.

Worth the money. Plus, if you DO have problems, ITC is VERY pro-active
with customer care. Picco-Z customer care is non-existant.

i DISAGREE! tHE pICO z IS SUPERB AND WITH A FEW FLIGHTS TO PRACTICE IT
CAN BE FLOWN WITH TREMENDOUS ACCURACY. tAKE OFF FROM YOUR HAND, FLY
AROUND AND LAND BACK ON YOUR HAND . sPOT ANDINGS, NAVIGATION THRU THE
HOUSE, ALL POSSIBLE WITH PICO Z. Sorry for shouting, kids turned caps
lock on.

The pico z is huge fun and a massive laugh to own and fly. Throw it
high in the air then sslam the throttle open and wathc it fly!

The pico z is twitchy at first but half a dozen flights later sees the
gears etc free of burrs and it becomes wonderfully smooth.

And it's cheap!

PEBCAH... I bomb my PicooZ all over the house with excellent control.
I can "walk the dog" anywhere in the house I want to and land it on a
dinner plate..

I get at least 10 mins out of my PicooZ if not longer - I've never
actually timed it -

Huh? I think you've either got the PicooZ way out of trim or there's
something mechanically wrong with it.

My neighbor would beg to differ.. (as would I) I was out in the
cul-de-sac doing some test hovering of my Trex 600 and he broke out
his PicooZ and was flying all over the place..

I've taken my 'Z outside many times..

Is your Z an actual SilverLit unit or one of a dozen or so cheesy
knock offs?? How much customer care do you need?? If it acts up, fix
it. It's not like they're overly complex or anything...
