I wanted to add these comments to my mini-howto but I believe it is better to start a new thread. It may confuse readers if I insert them into the howto articels.

General Comments:
There is no need to make changes to the basic design of FlightGear at the moment. It is flexible because it allows users to program almost every part of its functions.

It may be slow because it tries to support many functions but you can disable many of them in order to get better frame rate, or better still, get faster hardware.

One reason why it is so slow is the high resolution of its models, but this is not a disadvantage. I intend to improve models in Clearview and FMS into Flgihtgear but with the best resolution available.

It is actually so easy. I shall start with a few models. My first target is the F15 and Su-27. The models are all available, especially Su-27/30 but F15 is not of high quality.

I am downloading decals as well as picture 3-views from http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww4/f/652/1/3.

This is an excellent site for modellers and builders alike.

I've finished the F15 and now proceeding with the Su-27.

There are more decals in the mini-previews by jetset44.

Converting models to Flightgear:
With my experience in modelling for Clearview and FMS, it is actually easy but much more flexible and powerful.

Because it is based on plib, it can import models from .ac, .mdl(MSFlight Sim) and 3ds and others.

Textures can be in .rgb or .jpg. I'm almost sure .bmp as well(not tested yet).
Although some of my installed models have problems recognising its own textures despite giving and reporting correct names for files in different formats, .rgb and .jpg. It is in the X15 and one glider. I shall investigate further.

Once I've finished one, I shall summarise their methods as a mini-howto,more for myself than for others.

I nearly wasted a lot of time configuring my new joystick for FlgihtGear if not for my mini-howto. I even forgot how to remove the brakes which is vital for most models in FlightGear. My mini-howto was not good enough to allow me to understand how to setup properly. I've edited and saved it.

Photo sceneries for Flightgear:
It is also not that difficult. We can put objects into Flgihtgear by inserting into its landscape config file. It is described in its FAQ but I've not testted them

Must work out its position first. My first scenery will be at my local place at Tg. Aru.

We can start by putting rectangles around our playing area and then paste them with the panoramic photos of that area. In this way we can simulate photo sceneries, just as FMS did. FMS even comes with its import utility now.
Clearview also has one, just need to determine the cubes used by them to display the component pictures.
