I hate to say it but i think am i being black balled by the canadian side of this forum. 23 people have looked at my post and havnt responded. why..? Look guys im new to this heli thing, confused at which route to take and i cant join any club cuz i dont have a car to get to the flying field so im basically left to my own devices here. I was told that by an r/c heli pilot recently in not so many words. i felt like hes telling me forget it cuz nobody will car pool with me. he hasnt responded to my emails since our phone conversation. I feel shunned and alone or am i not in the click...? you r/c guys make it very hard for newcomers and are set in your ways and dont take kindly to new people who dont have the money to spend or gear yous have. ive seen this many times thru the years at differnet club fields. the new guys get funny looks. im not trying to be nasty or dis anybody at all dont get me wrong but give a newbie a break here. I have to get the best bang for my buck. or is it just me..? :(

Douglas,

I sadly share your point of view about clubs and funny looks. I get funny looks from the two local hobby shops, that's why I merely use them to get piano wire and sometimes a connector or prop (end of rant).
But you have to consider that many of the people who look into the Canadian section could have other interest. I'm included in the 23 who looked and didn't have anything to say, because I fly planes and know nothing about helis.
Most of the time the best place to get help is from the topic-specific forum. So, that's my advice, post in the appropriate heli forum and you'll get tons of help (personal experience).
Take out that frustration, most of the people here in RCGroups are very nice and helpful, but then again many of them don't go to clubs. Also, I'm sure there is lots of nice people in the clubs, you just have to look harder ;)

Pedro.

well i feel better knowing that. Im dont know where the canadian heli forum is in here but i have posted many times in rcgroups general forum on helis. yes you are right there are alot of nice guys in there who have given me good and helpful advice. i dont mean to sound like im generalizing at all. buts its frustrating when your told by a hobbiest dont bother if you dont have a car to get to the field. therefore i have no choice but to go the heli route (electric) mind you....alone. *sigh* I want one and will get one regardless. I had a feeling i may be alone in this venture. buts its so nice to be able to share your passion with others of the same interest. being alone in this hobby is sad. ive been there before when i was into planes and boats. i did however belong to a local car club racing and it was nice to talk shop and hang out. but when i was a young guy (20's). thanks again for your response pedro. :D

Sorry Douglas, I looked at your thread too, but the only thing I can tell you about the axe cp is that it tends to sink into the ground in G3.5. It's one of my favorite helis in the sim to fly - as long as I can get it airborne before I sink low enought to trash the tail rotor.

Oh, and Eliminator RC in Winterpeg was supposed to be getting them in last week.

I too checked your thread, but not because I know anything about this heli, but because I was curious to learn about it too.

I am new to the hobby and wouldn't go around offering suggestions anyway, since I don't feel I have the right. I can and do comment on things I have direct experience with, but even that is dubious at this stage. :)

I have never been to a club.

Good luck
Creosote.

Douglas,

I have the fortune to have a buddy who's my neighbor and have similar interest in RC. But we do have very different schedules and it is usually very complicated to find the time.
I would still go to the park alone because I love this hobby.

Pedro.

PS: There's no specific Canadian heli forum

:(

One possible reason in this case is because the heli in question is very new and very few people have it yet (for example, Tower Hobbies had at best limited quantities at one point and is out again).
When I google "helimax axe cp", most of the references are to the Realflight G3.5 model of the Axe CP and wondering if anybody has seen one for real yet.

As far as the Candian section goes, I did not know one existed.
Most of the Axe CP links that I found from Google are either in the "simulator" section of the forums (because of the G3.5 model) or in the micro-heli section.

As far as I can tell, RC airplanes are much more popular than helicopters,
and many dislike the "micro" helicopters (preferring larger ones),
so micro helicopters (which is what the Axe CP is) is probably only of interest to a small section of of the RC aircraft folks.

Hey Douglas,

Just a note to say that I am also a newbie, who spends most of his RC time alone, although my interests are mostly fixed-wing. I've been to a club, and although I've found them friendly, its inconvenient to get there (for me its a long drive, for you you dont have a car).

I think you should try to make it out to your local club a few times once you get your heli, whether you use transit, call a cab, or borrow a car (not sure where you live), as hands-on instruction is worth its weight in gold. I had my first few flights with an instructor and now fly at my parents farms out in the country. I get most of my advice from www.rccanada.ca, there are a great bunch of people on there who are always wanting to help out newcomers, not to mention some good deals from time to time. And best of all, its all Canadian! Plus there's posts every few minutes, as opposed to the Canadian section of RCGroups.

Best of luck!

Ben
