Hi everyone,
Figured I'd get the most exposure in this forum, so here we go.
I installed Active X(I think) a few days a go so Microsoft could check my computer for the latest updates, now I get this message every time I log onto IE.
Why is it doing this and how can I get rid of it?
I"m definately a computer "user", not a programmer or buff, so please be gentle :D .
Thanks

You can try using your restore point to get back to where you were. I don't care much for the new update. Once I reformat there won't be a choice.
Start
All prog
Accessories
System tools
System restore.

MS has/had a patch for this. But I'd just switch to Firefox.

So,
If I don't want to switch to firefox or somethin, I just have to live with it?

Be careful running active X on some pages. One day I ran one and it gave my computer a nasty virus. Got it cleaned up in a day's time.
Another time I installed an 'upgrade' to windows active x video software from a sketchy site. Instead of a nice upgrade I got a suite of spyware on my comp. :-( That was seriously bad news and took a few days to clean everything up.
Also be careful the source of the download is reputable. Some 'spyware scanners' are actually malicious.
I recently switch to FireFox after stubbornly using IE for many years. I am very happy with my experience so far. It seems to have better security and is easier to manage temp files, cookies, etc. You can port you favorites too.

Turn off your active X in your options menu. You don't have to run it.

I run a browser called Maxthon....works nice, easy to use, and lets you turn on or off active X with a click from the tool bar at the top of the page. I also run AVG free 7.5. I refuse to upgrade to MS new browser because the company that I get my education from on trading currency has trouble with it.

I also strongly recommend Firefox but nobody can be forced to be happy :D
Switch off Active X under options or whatever MS has called it actually...

Thanks guys,
I went into internet options and disable what I think is the right Active X control. Theres about 4 or 5 of em.
Is it easy to convert to Firefox? My biggest concern if screwing up my computer and also my wife. Every time I change something on the 'puter, and she notices, I get ragged on for it.
Come to think of it, when I started IE just now, the MSN homepage didn't ask me if I wanted to run Active X. This was before I disabled anything.
I just wish I had a machine that worked the same every time I turned it on  .

Many people are very happy using Firefox as their homepage. From what I've been told most spammers and scammers use IE 90% of the time for their prey. I may just switch to Firefox myself. I use to play Chess online and was a fanatic about it, but it required Active X for their program, and anytime you use active X software you create an opportunity for a computer savy thief and or vandal to enter holes in you computer. Some applications will not run without it ( hence the chess sites ). Having a Firewall is a very good way to increase you protection.

Super easy to convert. FF imports all the bookmarks. Get the latest version (2). BTW, there's an "IE in FF Tabs" add-in if you HAVE to have IE.
