I can find nearly any info I want regarding the Oly II, but the Sceptor 100 from Laser Arts is kind of scarce of topics...Has any built the Sceptor, and if so can any advice be lent regarding it's capabilities as a beginner sail plane?
Also, the "Oly II S" is also looking like a real promising bird as well.

I like both sialplanes. I'v not built either, but know people that have. For my money, of the 3 you've mentioned, the Oly II S would get my vote for first, then the Sceptor. then the Oly II. The original Oly is a good model, but the old airfoil, and completely open bay structure make it obsolete for the most part. The Sceptor uses a slightly modified 7037 and the O II S is running the 3014. Honestly, though, any of them would be a great starting point. I am just finishing a Sky Bird, and Laser Arts does the cutting for my models. Both Skybench and Laser Arts are top notch suppliers. Whatever you choose you won't go wrong.
Enjoy,

Thanks Jack,
I agree, both companies seem to be great options for anygrain of modeler/flier. I first wanted the Jester, but since I wanted to build, I wanted to go for broke and go a little bigger than 2M...I may opt for the "Oly II S" I really like the way this bird looks in flight.

For the money the Majestic is also a great ship. I have had mine for several years and I just love it. The added span plus the Drela mods will likely yield better performance than the Sceptre.
What ever you decide to build, be sure to wrap the joiner boxes.

Johnnie,
Mr. Walters suggested ship the Majestic is a nice ship, but if you are a green builder is not for you, stay on scent and go Oly II or Sceptor. I have flown both, lots of Oly II time, but flown the Sceptor for a friend to get started, both great ships and very straight forward build and radio set up.

Whatever you do don't forget the MM Glidertech Marauder. I was looking at the same planes as you and picked the Marauder, I'm glad I did as she's a MUCH more attractive ship with a much better airfoil than either of the above.

I built the scepter for Brian at Lazer Arts- and the build log is still floating around somewhere- you should be able to find it with a search. It's a fine performing plane, and handles just fine for a beginner- perhaps a touch fast, but fine. I'd remember though that the Oly II is a gummyband or bolt on type wing, and the Scepter is a wing rod style craft- less forgiving to stupid landings in time.
I'd rate the Scepter as a good second plane- after you've finished bashing about the first.

OK, here's the link. It was nice re-reading my thread. I wish I hadn't crashed the plane so badly. It was a really great flyer.

Nice build thread, it was quite educational, but I believe you are right, I will need to bash my first sailer before I attempt a rod mounted wing. I will probably end up with the Oly II S, but I would like to ask one other question of you...FrogChief has a nice build thread on the Marauder, and I noticed parts to a Marauder in pictures from your build thread...have you finished the Marauder? and do you have an opinion of this sailplane?
thank you,
Johnnie

You know, the Marauder is sort of a "long term" project right now- I'm sort of ashamed I haven't chucked it off a hill yet (I really love big slope)
The Marauder isn't a super hard build, but it's not exactly easy either, especially considering the mods that most people consider necessary for that plane- and don't let it's big woody looks fool you, it's a performance plane (so says people who've flown it- not me)
I'd toss out a huge vote for the OLY II. I had the 2M version what was it... 15 years ago? What a great plane. Whoever has the rights to it needs to get off their you-know-what and well... you know. Jeez.
