Hello flyers, I'm just getting into e-flight and would like to know if there is a cheeep way to charge my 12v battiers, from house current 120v.
I was thinking of useing my battier charger for my car, but I think that only gives, what they call a trical charge, and i don't think that will do the job.

bdd.

bdd,

What you need is a cheap (old style) computer power supply. I got mine for $20 (including a scrap case and mother board) from a local computer shop. These power supplies put out 12V and 5V in their various connectors, just isolate the 12V wires you need, and stuff the rest back into the case where they won't interfere with fans or cooling. I even put bananna plugs on the case to quickly and safely plug in and out my charger.

I'll get a pic if you're interested.

Corey

PS I haven't charged at higher than 2A from mine, so I hope you aren't expecting more out of it than that. It may not be safe...

I sure find it confusing, with amps, volts and all they other electrical bla bla bla.

A picture would be good Core, thank you for your time.

Hello flyers, Corey led me to looking at power supplies, and how to charge your battiers in the shop, other than in your auto.
This can be dun by using a power supply.
There is a great sight at wikiHOW, that shows you in great detail how to convert a old computer power supply, to a power supply for this job.
I typed in "How to convert a computer atx power supply to a lab power supply."
Try it you'll like it.
