Second Annual Fall Edition Celebration of Silent Flight

October 5 and 6, 2002.

Fern Prairie Modelers Field, Washougal, WA.

AMA or MAAC required.

Officially quiet flying from 9 am to 3 pm each day.

Field has a nice 300' mat runway with parallel grass.

Fewer competition events and more open flying than our traditional Spring events.

On-site self-contained camping ok - gate will be open starting Friday.

Might not have food on-site this time, but there is a Subway sandwich shop just minutes away and other fast-food nearby.

Note for all that just need to know, yes, the ol' raggedy B-17 will be in flying condition :-)

Saturday was wonderfully wind-free...at most, just a slight breeze.

Of course, it rained most of the day...

It did clear up around 1 pm and warmed up, too. But guys were flying when the drizzle lessended to mist, earlier.

Air Jer was assembling the B-17...now named PATCHES (appropriately!) when I left.

Bernard Cawley was flying his SwitchBack with retracts like he was going to die tomorrow - learning that one could get 100 watts per pound from a model sure changed BEC! The SwitchBack of his is doing inside loops, outside loops, and Lots more.

AirJer put wheels on the Rogarchevshy (sp?) that was on floats, and that lightened it up a bit (a pound or 3). This is the huge parasol model that Dale Teed built years ago, I bought it and kept it in my shop 3 years, trying to find time and motivation to put it into the air...then traded it to Jerry for (something?) It is a Very Large shrink-wrapped package that really has presence...but only one motor.

One modeler had an Edge 540 that was one of the ".90 size" ones, on a lot of cells and I believe an Actro. Many models did not leave the auto or truck, because of the weather.

I will be there tomorrow, early, so I can fly some and then get back to my son's baseball game...he's pitching. I will have the Chech Albatros seaplane, my GWS Zero, and my MAGIC on 16 cells...that weighs six tons. Boy, it lands fast...compared to one with a .32 in the nose!
