Well its time I stopped blaming my crappy El-Cheapo airbrush and bite the bullet and get a Paasche. Yes I know there are other brands but I want a Paasche. :p
The VL seems like the most accepted one but googling in Oz the price is around $185(delivered), cheaper if you can find it on ebay.
I have found a guy in US selling Paasche gear
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110058899282
The cost to me would be $130 aussie dollars shipped to Melbourne. However I have emailed him and asked what the shipping cost would be for 2 or more to be shipped together, waiting his reply.
If another person(s) out there were interested, the price per unit could drop to approx $103 delivered.
If anyone is interested just PM me or if you know where I could find a new VL for this sort of price in OZ please let me know.
Cheers
Raven.

If you are trying to get together a group order, why not try the local importer first. Binks Billows were in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne last time I dealt with them and were a nice bunch of guys to deal with. Also if you have a problem you can talk to them and sort it out. BTW My old Pasche has been working a treat for over 18 years now :)

Tim, just spoke to Oliver Spray Equipment (Binks Billows ??) , got quoted a price for one unit, but that is not in the ball park yet. I explained to him what I am doing and he said that when numbers can be confirmed a better price may be on the cards.

It looks like they have been swallowed up by the ITW Group and no longer import Paasche. http://www.itwfinishing.com.au/index.php
Also make sure you are getting in the VL Kit from the US get it with the different pots and needles and not just the gun.

Ok, Got the VLS Paasche.
Now,
Air compressor...... I have the small $70 GMC oilless compressor, but it is a bit on the loud side, especially at night. Does anyone have any info on where you can get those little quiet ones??? Ebay (Baylec) is selling mini compressors starting at around $110. However all the XMas bidders are jacking the price up all the time.
Thanks

I'm not sure whether you're taking the piss out of me or not Olmod ;)
I've heard about people trying to insulate noisy gadgets with different stuff. If you enclosed the air compressor with anything, wouldn't the compressor be struggling to get the air ?? And if you had to make a hole for air to enter, wouldn't the sound escape through it ??
Or does because the hole is relatively small, a smaller amount of sound would only escape ?? I have no idea about sound proofing. If anyone has tried it or something similar, please let me know. A foam esky is going to work out a lot cheaper than a new compressor.
Thanks

no i was not joking ,the best ones are the cheapo styrene foamies as there is no rigid plastics to conduct the noise ,but if you want to make a attenuator enclosure i can give you what the pro's use in the way of advice ,guess who has made quite a few :) all the way from old fashioned dot matrix printers to large ingersol rand mobile compressors. air ingress is usually via a port wich uses sound absorbing baffles that have a backing to reflect sound back in.

Try a foamy first if thats not quiet enough you will have to find a source of supply of a material that has a 1~2mm lead backing with about 16mm acoustic foam stuck to it ,its usually black open cell foam, quite a few car and truck accessories places will know the stuff they line firewalls and floors of vehicles with it ,from there its a straight forward make a MDF box and base and line it with lead against the mdf we used cartridge guns of liquid nails to glue everything ,ill do a sketch of the baffle system if you wish to proceed.

Yes Please :D
I was thinking of knocking up a mdf box as you suggested and lining it with the black high density rubber from Clark Rubber. However, as you've suggested and my father-in-law, soundproofing requires lead. I bought a roll of lead flashing from Bunnings to use for ballast for planes, thought I could use that to line as well ?? What do you think ???

This is just a rectangular port side elevation if placed on edge through one end of your box from top to bottom it will allow cool air to enter the bottom and warm air to exit the top, lead is best against a dense material then accoustafoam or a wool pad over the top.

Another suggestion, though a little expensive, is to rent a cylinder from BOC and buy a regulator. I use a large size cylinder and only need to fill it about once per year, depends on how much use it will get.
Perfectly quiet but a little on the expensive side by the time you buy a reg and rent a bottle.

Olmod, what length/width would you have the baffle ? 100mm 150mm

I would try a gap of 15mm between the end of the baffle and the face of the next baffle ,if you make the baffle width around 30mm wide and as long as you wish,4 baffles should be enough.it was for melbourne picture theatres air vents :) they also had similar prob's.
