.46 AX Ducted Fan???

Ok, here's the deal... I have a couple OS .46 ax engines and I am interested in ducted fans. I am having a very hard time spending almost 300 dollars on the OS ducted fan engine that lacks the warantee because of the "high performance" nature of the engine.

Has anyone thought about gearing a standard engine 1:2 and using it in a DF??? I realize that this would involve a pretty serious gearbox and all that stuff but does anyone see any blaring problems with this idea???

Yeah, it won't work. You need a high perf. engine for DF, o chance of success with a sport 40

Not enough power, even if you gear it up to get the RPM the motor doesn't have the torque to turn the load so it won't spin up fast enough. Plus it's a side exhaust motor and you NEED a tuned pipe. etc. etc. lots of reasons...

If your 46 was timed for DF it would work, but the 46AX is timed in the design for let's say 14,000 rpm that is where thr power curve will be

I realize this is a longshot but is there any way to make modifications to an AX to time it for DF???

Sure you can time it like a DF engine... but it still won't work.
For one, the crank is too small: it will never be able to move enough air for the rpm levels DF require... There's a reason DF engines are rear intake, you know.

OK, I have a deal for you. As set up by JHH: Turbax fan, OS46 with pipe, fan pressure, and tanks. Has two flights on it. Grounded because I wanted to electrify the plane, F15 Regal Eagle. Asking $600 including shipping.
