View Full Version : Mamba Max Overheat Issues

I have a mamba max ESC and 5700 CMS engine from
Http://www.castlecreations.com which is installed into a traxxas
rustler. The rustler has very little stock parts remaining... most of
it is now Fast Lane Machine aluminum. The brushless motor tho...
overheats within a 5 or 6 min run. I have a 3s Lipo pack, 15 tooth
pinion, 86 tooth spur...

any suggestions on how to keep this cool so I don't have to replace my
engine every week or so?

What tyres you running? The gearing sounds about right for this brushless
setup if your using close stock diameter tyres.

What 3S capacity are you running? To low and it could cause excessive heat
build up.

Does it still heat up with a 2S or a 6 cell pack?

What timing, punch control and voltage cut-off have you got set in the esc?
Try reducing the timing and punch control and turn off the drag brake.

What surface are you running on when it heats up, loose surfaces and
continous speed can cause excessive heat build up.

Unfortunately I dont think the Mamba Max is up to the standard of Novak with
their brushlees car motors. The speed controllers are top stuff but I have
heard of way to many people complaining about cooking the motors with 3S
packs.

2.2 diam Pro Line dirt hawg's, on RC-Parts rims.

6000 mah 3s Lipo.

no 2s pack to test, 6 cell pack did make engine warm...

low setting on timing, 0 punch control, 9v cutoff. drag brake has been
off.

mix between concrete and low grass/dirt.

ya, I am seriously considering looking towards different engines...
other forums I post too give me the same informations. Castle really
bragged up these 1/10th scale demons...

BTW- Is the speed controller shutting down at all when the motor heats up?

Do you have any temp readings from the motor? I think the CC site
recommends no more than 200 degree's.

Have you read the Max Tuning Guide on the CC web site, that might help you
with a little info. Apart from this I would recommend contacting CC and see
what they can suggest. If at worse they should offer to replace the motor
for free.

If all else fails you could always toss the motor in the bin and stick a
brushed motor in there with the Max controller.
