I'm back with more newbie questions.
I want to replace a JR29fm tx 72.370 crystal. the rx crystal is still good.
The replacement crystal I see on Horizon hobbys list does'nt have the number 29 on it,I need that number to match the channel number on the reciever crystal that i have, don't I.
I have a JRxf 421    "ex" transmitter, and a JR "R" reciever, what crystals can i use in these units.

Apparently, it is "illegal" to modify or touch/replace the crystal in your TX. There is a big thread on the issue somewhere. I've taken the crystal from my BladeCp tx and swapped it into my Futaba 7CH. Not sure where to get the crystal you are looking for...

I have read about the illegality of swapping Tx crystals, but I understand that applies to AMA.
Bruce, you need the same channel (number) in both transmitter and receiver. Sorry I can't be more help, my radio gear is Futaba
Pedro.

Bruce,
The channel number is just a "short form" for frequency used by the radio. Here's a link that shows the channel number to frequency assignments: http://modelairplane.org/Comp/frequency.htm (for some reason, they've left off the trailing zero on all the frequencies).
So for a JR channel 29 Tx, you need to buy a JR Tx crystal 72.370, which is exactly what you were looking at. If this is what you were looking at: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRPXFT29 you've got it right.

Thank you Ivan, I did go ahead and buy that crystal set ,it did the trick.
The old tx crystal did make a noise when you sook it.so i guess the filliment inside was broken, if that is what is inside??? or i guess the crystal is broken.
Anyhoo, it's minus 15 today so I think i'll stay inside,no flying yet.
Thanks again.

Just a note,
I understand bdd, that you were simply replacing your crystal on the same channel.
However, it should be mentioned that I'm afraid Pa0222 is mistaken, and it is also illegal in Canada to change channels on your transmitter without having it sent back to the factory to be retuned. It may work fine with your receiver, however the problem is you could be swamping over onto other channels as your transmitter is now detuned. The only way you can change a transmitter frequency with no problems is if your transmitter uses modules, as all the tuning is done inside them.
Credit goes to Jim Daly for this information.

Well Ben, now I'm mixed up, I don't think I'm changing anything, really, just replacing.
The tx crystal I removed was broken, the one I put back in was the same number 72.370, and channel 29. And now it is working.

Bruce,
You're fine with the same channel. What he means is that if you went to another channel (like 26 perhaps) on your Tx and Rx it might still work, but would be slightly out of tune. Since you stayed with the same channel you don't need to worry.

Sorry if I confused you bdd, The Enemy is right. I tried to explain that you were fine on the same channel, but I guess it came out confused.
The point is if you want to change channels (I know that you in specific don't, but anyone that does) must have the transmitter professionally tuned, to prevent washing over between frequencies.
