I needed to look up some wing section data from Martin's site http://beadec1.ea.bs.dlr.de/Airfoils/index.htm and discovered he's had to withdraw from it for a while. He gives the reasons, and it's worth looking at what happened.

A pity, as he had an exhaustive list/history of all Cox engines, many wing sections and wind tunnel data etc..

I discovered this just a couple weeks past.
Very sad indeed; I too hope it isn't a harbinger of the direction that the internet is taking.

Unfortunately this isn't the first nor I suspect the last we will hear of such things.

cheers, Graham

It is vey sad he has been frightened into withdrawing his excellent site. I wrote to him asking him to reconsider. I hope other modellers also email him with their support and encourage him to put the site up again.

Neil.

$2000 sounds a lot. I think I would write and offer a few $100. Normaly in court you have to show that the damages you are claiming are a reasonable estimate of your loss plus costs. If the map is 12 years out of date and if he only copied a small part of it them $2000 seems hard to justify. It would be interesting to know what a map company would charge you to if you wanted to add a map to your web site. I believe many online map sites let you link into their map service for free because it brings extra hits to their web site.
