is this a smart @SS remark i just want to build a cable to program my hyperion brushless esc from the computer. i am wondering the wire layout of both the 4 pins on the esc and what they go to on the other side of the cable that would connect to the computer.

Well that is simple: You can't unless you put some electronics in between. Refer to the link posted.

I don't have a Hyperion PC Interface Cable (and even I did, I might not want to risk breaking it trying to find out what's inside) so I can only guess at how it works.

From the markings on a Titan ESC (GND, V+, TX, Rx) I suspect the 'cable' is an RS-232 to TTL convertor, similar to this (http://www.seattlerobotics.org/encoder/aug97/cable.html) or this (http://www.scienceprog.com/simple-ttl-to-rs232-adapter/). If the IC is too hard to get, you could try a discrete design, such as the PC to PIC Convertor shown here (http://www.ise.pw.edu.pl/~wzab/picadc/picadc.html).

Having built one, I can confirm it is a simple RS232 to TTL converter
No point making it complicated.

Either grab the MAX232 datasheet from somewhere and follow the typical example circuit in there, or use one of the circuits in the previous links.

This is a minimal componant count circuit & should be buildable by just about anybody.

If you do a little searching, there is a way to eliminate the V+ line, and power the MAX 232 from a few spare pins on the RS232 port.
