Room temp.
Trickle charge to peak capacity/voltage every 2 months or so.
If you let em' sit for too long and they lose their charge, they're never
going to hold a proper one again.

I keep them discharged personally. Dont refrigerate, but I keep them in a
cool dry place.
NiMH batteries have a bad shelf life compared to Nicads so if you store them
charged, it wont take long before they are flat anyway.
Another reason for this is when I charge my batts, I dont like to have them
discharging for too long because when I want to drive, I want to drive and
not wait hours for batt to discharge :)

someone just suggested leaving permanently connected to an intelligent
trickle charger. i know my prodigy II when set to 5 amps will pump out
250mah after the charge finished indicator comes on. at 1 amp it produces
50mah. Kid left charger on at school over school holidays. fire started
after a week.

There is no way I leave any sort of charger on unattended, not to mention
permanently on!!!. I dont even leave them on overnight when I'm at home!
(expect for AA size batts which take 12 hours anyway)
I charge all my stuff in the garage where it is the coldest and I still have
stick packs over 5 years old and cranking along nicely.

OMFG!!!
That's like putting a Lithium Polymer battery to charge on your bed and then
going out for a hour or two.
