If I use my own Tx in pass through mode,
Does the Tx have to be switched on or off, and is the module left in or taken out. I would favour switched on with no module to prevent RF transmission.
I am not sure so I would like confirmation.
Cheers
Bill.

What does "pass through mode" mean ? What Tx is it ?

In "pass through" mode (page 256 in Manual), you use the usb controller as an interface to allow you to use your own Tx to control the simulator (G3),
My Tx will either be a Futaba FF8 Super or a 9CHP.

I don't know anything about pass through and G3 but every sim interface I've met requires a Futaba Tx to be switched on. Removing the module is also a good idea but may not be 100% necesssary. It depends on exactly how the interface is wired.

Generally its advisable with any sim to remove the crystal or module when using a transmitter with a simulator for two reasons.
1) - saves power as you are not driving the transmission stage.
2) - you are not actually transmitting, and thus there is no chance of interfearance with any other user in the range of the TX (not really a problem if you are two miles away from the guy next door !)

Most transmitters that can be used for training can be powered thru the trainer port with auxilliary power. That is how the master transmitter (teacher's) powers the trainee's transmitter which in return sends a PPM signal back to the master tranmitter for broadcast to the plane.
All it takes is a 9v wallwart properly wired to the trainer plug.

Reflex XTR sim cable plugged into a Futaba T8UP will cause the TX to come on in trainer mode without the need for the switch to be in the on position.
Futaba transmitters have the option to be powered through the trainer socket or if a link is made between two of the pins in the plug it will power up from it's own battery either mode only causes only the encoder to come on and not the RF section.

I guess that from the various replies that no one has tried to use their Futaba FF8 Super to drive their G3 using the USB Controller as an interface.
I am only interested in FF8 Super working with Realflight G3.
Thanks
Bill.
