I'd like to install a small ballast tube on my new Moth (North County Flying Machines) (http://www.northcountyflyingmachines.com) . My question is, once I find the right CG, should the tube go DIRECTLY underneath that? And if so, what direction, parrallel with the wing or lengthwise with the fuse? Whatever way it goes, doesn't that mean I'd have to always add weight in "twos" (one on each end to keep the weight distribution the same)? And my last question is: It needs to be small, so what should I use for the tube, and how do I find or make snug little weights to fit inside? Thanks for any help.

Normally in gliders there are two methods used. The first is the tube you mention and it is usually placed in the wing at the CG in a spanwise direction. The other is a weight box in the fuselage at the CG. For the Moth it looks like a weight box cut into the EPP at the CG will be the easiest to install and change weights. For weight you can use anything heavy that will fit from coins to lead shot. Maybe a good plan would be to glue a small bottle with a screw cap in the EPP at the CG and put lead shot in it for ballast.
