Hello! boat people, I have 2 cracker boxes with homelite engines, one
engine seems to a ignition problem. I can test run it everything seems O.K.
put it in the water run it, it may run or it may not, I pull it out the ignition
may or may not fire. my question is? are there any kind of tests to tell if the ignition coil, or what the problem is, I have checked and disconnected the
ground (kill wire) also is there a distance that works better for the coil to
be from the flywheel? Thanks Leon

Generally I put an index card between the flywheel and coil, let the magnets hold things tight and then tighten things down. Check to see if the flywheel key has sheared or has been offset (partial shear). Also will the engine run better if you leave the plug wire loose but close enough to provide spark to the plug, bad plug.
