Believe it or not, this year my wife has the gauntlet down and claims she needs my Christmas list by the beginning of October. I recall the days when I only needed a list to deliver by Thanksgiving, or we weren't allowed to eat any turkey!

Having said that, now that I am getting into this hobby in a big way, I'd like to throw out to your expertise what gifts would be good for the model boater in me. I have some tools thus far, but any other specialized tools, etc? Good gadgets? Not thinking in the +$100 range if that gives any help.

Oh, and if she asks, all the boat kits I bought were around $20 each :D

Hee hee, where did this year go?

Being an RR guy, you probably get the Micro Mark catalouge?

Tools: Dremel of course! I imagine you have one of those! Good stocking stuffers are small jeweler's files (I use mine all the time) I'm also happy with my desk top 5" disk sander from Micro Mark-

How is the lighting on your work bench? Good lights are important! :)

cutting mats, model sized miter saws/boxes... all good gifts! :)

Hmmm, what are the motor and hardware setups for the Scarabs from Dumas?

After you get those items you could then justify one of those "$20" hulls they sell. ;)

How about some epoxy, fiberglass cloth, stir sticks, "fine line" tape for taping off the waterlines, low voltage halogen lights. an exhaust fan for your health, theres a start

Assorted boat motors, props, shafts, and couplings. She shouldn't pass up the opportunity to say she gave you the "shaft" for christmas! :)
What builds are in your future?
Maybe a nice wet/dry vac with extra fine dust filter.
Spray booth
Gift certificate to your Local Hobby Store of choice
Subscription to a magazine
new table saw blade??
Some realy nice hard wood for detailing (mahaogany, cherry, walnut even exotics)
to many choices and we aren't sure of what you have now.

It's tough to write a Christmas wish list when you've already got a fully-equipped shop, and already have virtually everything you want.

How about a gift certificate to the stores you frequent? I usually ask for one from Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.

Then there is that subscription to a hobby or craft magazine, or Wooden Boat---.

Uh oh, Boatfox already said that---. But anyway, that's what I ask for, rather than running the risk of getting something I don't want or need, and hurting someone's feelings.

You can create a "Wish List" and then let your wife see what things you would like:

There are pro's and con's about telling you wife each kit was around $20 and that all depends on the relationship you have. If you have a bad relationship then around $20 is a good number in case you get divoriced. If you have a good relationship and something happens to you that she has to take care of your estate, well one of your model boating friends stops over an offers $15 for each kit she may think it is a good deal getting about 5 cents on a dollar.

Since my stuff is stored in a basement I did an inventory with kit status and recent prices on ebay. This is kept on a flash drive. It would help her (and there are some guys in our local club that $10.00 for a $200.00 kit is to much. You know the kind, They ask if the kit is complete when the price says free) and good for me in case there is a flood or some other problem. The only thing left is to label the transmitters to the proper boat

Besides it also becomes my focus planner and identifies which are completed and which are in the thinking stage. Microsoft Excel works well for this.

Just a serious thought to a passing funny comment.

Happy Modeling,
Rich

rlboats2003,
Comment was tongue in cheek. Of course, I don't really advertise the value of these items I have, but my wife knows how to use Ebay, and if I am gone my quite small collection of hobby stuff won't make a big difference either way.

There are quite a few folks that keep inventories of their hobby items, be it boats or whatever, more for the insurance agent if their house ever burns down or floods. I do have a general list with values for that.
