I found this article on Modelshipwrights page and thought someone here might like to see it. Basically it shows you how to weave your own fenders which look so much better than the purchased ones.

Thats a great artical, I remember doing the same thing when I was a kid to make rope rugs, I hadn't thought about makeing finders with it.

I made the same thing with those small diameter spools. I don't know how many I made and sold as a kid. That was when you actually could go door to door and sell something and didn't have to be afraid. I wonder if they still make the spools?

heh all you need are some wire brads and a chunk of wood with a hole :)

You could take a 1 1/4" dowle and drill a hole through it , add wire stays and you've got it.

We used strips of "lacing", crossed and knotted at the centre then "braided" in a simple over-and- under pattern....
