I am hoping one of you electronic guru's in this forum can help me with a question before it becomes a problem. I am in the final assembly stages of a nano F14 twin edf. I was planning on using a small rare earth magnet ( RS# 64-1895) to act as a hatch hold down. Now that I am at that stage I have two places that I can locate the magnet, One near, 1/2", of the dinky little 4.9gr servos and the other about the same distance from the ant end of the Berg micro stamp 4L. I know that servo motors can be demagnetized by being to close to a strong magnetic field ie soldering gun. I am not sure what effect if any the magnet may have on the front end of the Berg? Anyone have any input on this?

Hi John,
Not a bonafide Guru or rocket scientist :D , but a permanent magnet will not demagnetize the magnets in the servo, to demagnetize you use an ac magnetic field, as in the case of the soldering gun, now some clarification here, if you take a powerfull 120Vac solenoid without the armature (plunger thingy) and stick a screw driver in that is magnetized and slowly pull it out while the solenoid is enerized the screwdriver will be totally de-magnetized, but if you put it back in and kill the power to the solenoid with the screw stick still in the field, it will be strongly magnetized by the collapsing field
As far as bothering the rx, I doubt it, but lets see what some other Gurus have to say ;)

Thanks Pete,
Your right of coarse, I wasn't thinking about the soldering gun being an AC field. Near the servos was the first choice for the latch location as it is at the back of the hatch and there is a pin at the front. Now I can keep on keepin on. We have a club picnic Saturday and I would like to have the maiden out of the way before then.
