No, its not RC yet, however this is my next project to follow the E-boat.
My plan is to convert this static tamiya model of the American carrier USS Enterprise (CV-N 65) to RC.
In my quest to do this I would like your pics of yours, also what problems you had and how you solved them.
Yours Ghostie

The biggest problem I could see you comming up to would be ballasting the ship. These ships tend to be heavy on the starboard side. The real ones are that way too so dont feel bad. Looks like you are missing a few parts tho the forks on the bow are not there (they help the landing gear lower slowly so it does not stress the aircraft as much, Newer carriers do not have these.) The elevators are also kept in an up position at all times unless they are transporting aircraft from the FD to the Hanger or visa versa. This also does not help the top heavy condition that carriers naturally have. Good luck on your conversion, I look forward to following it.

well it will lie static for a while as I work on the schnellboot, however I dont think its gonna be too bad, its no worse than say Gemini, a lead gel battery should help keep her steady, failing that Ni-xx batteries
the lifts and bow forks are there, there INSIDE the hull as they broke off as I gained access to her

one thing that is going inside her is Polystyrene, LOTS OF IT!

Poor Ghost... You have slipped into the advanced stages the model illness... Planning the next boat while you have one still in the 'ship yard'! ;)

Model Illness: a disease similar to "hoby pox","just had to have it" and "it was too good an offer, I couldn't resist". Can be transmitted through over zealous persons enjoying a hobby. Usually contracted through clubs of intrest, hobby magazines, or hobby sites on the internet. Affected areas include the swelling of the imagination, alter egos, fingers(glued together), wallets being empteied, and work benches and shelves over run with prodjects and ideas. Only known cures; run out of imagination, finish all possible prodjects, run out of funds, or move into an assylum for the hobby dysfunctional. Hope to cure those affected, yes. Realality of self cure, doutfull. Risk factors include, but not limited to; credit card over runs, glue/paint fumes ( sometimes deemed as good ), late nites of saying "just one more little thing to add", and the dreaded "signifigant other" discovering another prodect that has been there the "whole time" (they just were not observant enough--really). Best deffence is not to fight it, but enjoy Model Illness. :D  ;)

In looking back, we tend not to regret our purchases, but "the ones that got away", the ones we didn't buy when we could have. Of course, eBay offers a remedy for that, but sometimes at a rather steep price. :(

All: "HI KEITH!" :)
Hello, I'm Aerominded... I too am a sufferer... I need another project like an extra hole in my head but I can't help myself...
Right now, I have the "no longer available" blues... just got off of the phone with Dumas re: a fiberglass boat I've had my eye on... discontinued... :(
(ref the dumas, plastic hulls thread)
sniff, twitich, it's cool, I'll get through this, man... ;)

I was looking at their 30" Wellcraft Scarab... :) I see Tower still has the big 55" one but there is no way I could sneak that one past the wife!
the 30" version was on their 'discounted' boats section... I get the impression that they weren't widely distributed?

When my wife was in my shop the other day, she looked at my To Build shelves and said - whats that, pointing to a new Darby hull, I replied, oh! that has been in the storage room, it worked! Now I have to think of something new. ordered 2-Jersey City, and 1- Brooklyn kits.

HA!!! LOL!!!! :D
I've done that too!!! Now, with the Darby potentially OOP, you can tell her it is a valuable retirement nest egg!
Sorry Ghost!!! :o Part of the 'illnes' involves not staying on topic!!! ;)

The 'secret', is to have so much clutter in your hobby room that another package, or two or three, doesn't stand out any longer. "Can't see the forest for the trees" sort of thing. :D

LOL....It's Friday night Did you
#1 go out with your buddies?
#2 Stay home and watch a movie with the signifigant other
#3 Go to your space and create dust?
1 and 2 may leave......#3 welcome home.
remember this important fact...
Small boat kits can nest inside of the larger hulls. :)
I have a 6' long rolling job box full of kits. It's easy to wheel out of the garage in case the house catches on fire too. :p

That said, it is time to plan the next, next boat! :D
I was at the hobby shop yesterday and they had a whole shelf full of revell "north sea trawlers"- seems revell just did a new run of them- I want to say they are 1:124 scale?
You need a Greenpeace boat between Celestia and the wayward hovercraft!
;)
Ghost 2501
Oct 27, 2006, 01:44 PM
what scale are the linburg ones?
Aerominded
Oct 27, 2006, 02:04 PM
Not sure! :)
you've seen Tony O's thread on the NS Trawler? good stuff!
What scale is the Celestia?
Ghost 2501
Oct 27, 2006, 02:19 PM
Celestia is 1/200th, same as my Yamato :) either way, the lindburg kit seems closer to Gemini than the revell one, also being larger (just) it may be a better bet on the water,
Now as regards the carrier, based on the manga "Gundam"m I am going to turn the F14 into the Valkyrie fighters, essentially a V-tail F14 with no horizontal fins at the back and some space between the engines.
Aerominded
Oct 27, 2006, 02:31 PM
Is the carrier 1:350 scale? there were a few on the shelves that caught my eye too... Valkyrie fighters... I'll have to look that up, I'm not picturing those! May have to add a warship to my fleet sometime- Also noticed a 1:72 Flower class corvette that could be a good conversion...

Minor Correction, the Valkyrie isn't from Gundam... it's from Macross (and it's bazillion siblings). Gundam (and it's bazillion siblings) focused on a different kind of mechanized technology... just remember, in Gundam, one anthropormorphic robot can slice a massive battle cruiser in half... LOL! :D
Don't even get me started on Gunbuster... LOL! Love 'em all. :D

I love the Valkyre fighters. The only Transformer that I have from when I was a kid it my Skyfire which is exactly like that little plane you posted the pic of. He is in good condition and still transforms and I have all but 2 pieces of his leg armor. (removable red parts that Hasbro added to the robot).
As for the Hobby Pox I have a terminal case guys. I was trying to keep it a secret but I just could not hold it in any longer. The wife has come to accept my condition and she trys to help me feel better by buying me new trains, cars, or ships to build. What she doesn't know is that her buying me new kits she is making the condition worse. I dont complain about it tho I just keep my spirits up by adding a railing here a wheel there or even some trees if I think the hillside looks a little bare. I hope that we may never find a cure for Hobby Pox but we find a way to rid the condition of light wallet syndrome that hobby pox seems to induce.

I have done that with my trains. I built a whole set of coal cars and a few box cars at a show we were at. Had lots of fun :)
