View Full Version : Discussion Linear Actuators rather than Servos for some functions?

:D Hi all,
I found some good priced miniature linear actuators (around about $45USD each). Has anyone had any luck using them for functions like flaps/slats/gear where speed isn't that important?
Just wondered if it was the "done thing" or not. Think I'm going to give it a try unless I hear horror stories!!

I saw these in my June 2006 issue of Servo magazine.

These are so sweet! I am impressed! I've been dreaming of making my own 7 function robotic arm controlled by two cheap four channel airplane controllers and mounting it on a Kyosho Snow Blizzard with my wireless camera...These might just be the ticket.

Took me a minute to find these again.
The throw isn't all that far but here is a conversion which changes the circular output motion of a servo to true linear.

Sounds like a fun project BTW. Here's mine but without an arm.

Thanks Terry,
I have bearings for the shafts in there too. ;) I don't have metal machine tools so everything gets done with wood.

Yes firgelli are the ones (sorry I undersetimated by $10!). I'm waiting to see what their LS series is like - longer travel. Might be useful for flaps and gear. Not sure about the power though.
