Does anyone know if this company is still in business? They don't answer emails or return phone calls....Any info would be much appreciated!
(I ordered a 1/48 scale USCG Rescue Lifeboat which I wanted to use as a Lifeboat on my big trawler.)

I know that at least 5 years ago, things were looking very iffy for them... I havn't really looked for their products since... they had a lot of neat older kits that they were producing!

I did a search on the net, and came up with several Glencoe contacts, but to use Aerominded's phrase, they were "iffy"---.

Killick, are there any other hulls you could adapt to suit your tug? Glencoe's kit of a 36' lifeboat would, or should at least, be 9" long. Oops! Looked in the box, and it's 8" long---.

"Microglass" makes the 26' whaleboat and other small boats in several scales that may suit your needs. Check at: www.microglass.net

Killick, the Glencoe Lifeboats are for sale on eBay weekly. You should have no trouble getting one there for a fairly decent price. Jeff

I got the Glencoe Coast Guard Boat in the mail yesterday! With it came a note that Nick Argento had "relocated" to Petersham, MA --which was the cause for the delay in processing my order. (Nick said he's still going to use the "mailing address" given on the Glencoe Models Website, though.)

Yes, Karl -- it turns out the boat is a tad too small to work as a Lifeboat on my trawler. The only boat I've found that would do nicely is an 18' dinghy in 1/24 from Quaycraft in the UK....but EXPENSIVE, even before the shipping!

(For they want, my crew can swim!) :)

Thanks for the eBay tips, guys --- Nick's boat was about $10 USD was very "reasonable" with those shipping fees!

That is good news! Glencoe has some interesting classic (old tooling) models of unusual subjects- :)

Yes, but after going onto their website, I noticed that the 1/74 scale WWI
subchaser is no longer listed. That was a nice kit, and I have one built-up sitting on the windowsill of my shop.

I hope that Glencoe prospers, as it's nice to see some of the old stuff still out there.

Killick, what size and type of boat do you need, double-ended or flat transom?
I have a number of small oddball hulls sitting around that might fit.

The subchaser - WWI or WWII version - is a very appealing boat that makes a good model boat subject. Glencoe made (makes) a small version, while Microglass makes a larger, readily R/C'able size hull. I'd like to see a capable modeler construct a WWII version, using Microglass' 1/32nd scale hull.

Karl, it can be flat transom or double ended -- between 18 and 20' long in 1/24 scale.

The closest I can come on a flat transomed hull is 7" by 2 5/8" beam. And
you need at least 9". Ah, well---.

Jeeps, I did the Glenco model up in R/C, but haven't run it in years. I also have both Microglass hulls on hand, but haven't found the time slot to start on one. I'd prefer to do the WWI version, because I like the vintage look of portholes, rigging, stock anchors, etc.
