I was driving to lunch with two coworkers and a boat was on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it. Bought it.
It is a 1959 Wizard Bolero 15 runabout, it is a fiberglass boat in very good condition considering its age.
I was thinking after I bought it that not many or any scale models are kitted of the glass boats from the 50-60s. There were some great designs with some super style.
Heres some pics.
Thanks
Steve

Wow, it looks pretty neat! Very nice shape for the age. I see lots of potential there. Even has a classic S&W tach in the dash. The windshield looks amazingly good for the age.
Congratulations!

What a great find, I wish I could find and older boat to play with. Lets hope that the electric start works because that's is an awfully big motor to pull start. Has it really been sitting idle since 96' (last registration tag of 96'- Nevada).

I am really liking the classic plastic these days! Building an RC model from this era of fiberglass is on my list-
I like the little cabin cruisers on this site- they are totally funky :)

check out "cruiser mania" in the gallery section!
Congratulations and enjoy your new old boat! it really looks nice and complete!

Aero, I wander if some of the modern stuff chrned out by the likes of Fairline and Sunseeker, or for that matter Scarrab, (such as the type used in "thunder in Paradise" - starring hulk hogan), will be around in 30 years time??

Interesting question! :) hopefully they are built strong enough to survive the 'un-loved period' - when they are old enough to just be "old boats" but not so old that they are "cool, old boats".
that will be the test! :)
The classic plastics in general were way over built because not a lot was known about fiberglass engineering... some types do have problems though, I've read- :)

Steve,
I'm impressed! Looks like a great find. I hope it runs good. If not, I am sure you will get it up to speed in no time. So many places in SoCal to run the boat - I think Big Bear Lake will be a fantastic venue. Congratulations on the purchase.

Steve,
I love your style. "I saw this boat for sale...I bought it". Very cool.
And you told me not to show people all your boats. Ha!

Aero,
I'm old enough to have actually been on and driven some of these boats when they were new, tail fins and all---.

Hee hee! ;) When I was a kid, there were a few fiberglass boats with fins, etc. (that had by then, had gotten a fair amount of use) on trailers on the front yards of my neighbors houses... When the neighbors weren't home, me and my buddys would have a big time, climbing around on the boats, 'driving' them to Hawaii and other exotic places...
The neighbors must have wondered were all of the small foot prints came from...
 ;) :)

I saw that railroad too. I have been thinking about installing a g-gauge. What is a "temporary garage" Steve?

Nice old boat. Hate to say I had a similar one before it was an antique. Beautiful Merc. The top wasn't originally white. Does it run good?

Temporary Garage, Harbor freight and Costco carry them it is a tent big enough for a car or a boat, but temporary they are not I have seen them used for years. It was 160 dollars sure beats a storage space for cost, in LA for a boat size garage it is probably $150/month.
The engine last ran about three years ago, so I need to do some work on it first.

Okay, I know what you mean now. I almost bought one of those canvas things a couple years ago.

Looks like you have a early 60's merc 80 hp. I have a '61 500 50hp on 57 Century Palomino classic woody. Winterized it yesterday - Only have to cover the Morgan 30 tommorrow then I can go back to Model boats for the Winter.
Are you a member of a local ACBS chapter. Classic Glass is be coming popular in many chapters. These groups usually have workshops that I have found very helpful.
Good Luck with the restoration,
Rich

It is a MERC 600 only made in 1960, I am looking at the different groups and ACBS is one of them, nice to hear a good reference. I have been on the Fiberglassic website and even posted Pics of mine, been offered help to one of my questions already.
Thanks
Steve
