View Full Version : Discussion SFMYC meet OCT.28 Boats on Parade

Just as a notice to people in the area....The SFMYC will be having a model boat display/free running day on Oct.28th. One of the model boat magazines will have someone there to take pictures for an upcoming article. Bring any and all boats that you want to. Anything goes. A display table would also be good as nothing to set them on at lake side.
I want to say be there by 9AM to set up. (probably a bit earlier if you want prime space) here is their site...but not updated very recently SFMYC (http://www.sfmyc.org/)
The promo for the event is HERE (http://www.sfmyc.org/Oct_28%20flyer.pdf)

Question about parking in the area. Last time I was up in SF and at the GG Park the parking situation was almost impossible. I am talking 20 years ago. I normally don't go anywhere near downtown SF when I am up north, but I took my sister there.
If you go to this event, where do you park? And how is it transporting your boats and tables and etc. to the pond? I have some disabilities and cannot consider a long haul from a block or two away.

on a normal day, if you get there early enough, (and it doesn't have to be at sunrise...) there is usually parking right there at the lake... you have to share with the folks who are ususally doing tai-chi there in the morning (I don't know if they are dangerous!) I can't think of the road names right now, (Fulton and 36th?) I will get a map but, you can get to the lake without having to drive through the park which is is hard to do on a Saturday... not sure what the crowd size will be for this event but I would guess at a minimum, there would be a 'loading zone' if the parking is bad

Looks like a great event. I wish I could be there. Just the drive is a bit long. Then again, I work for an airline - so I could be there easily for a couple of hours. (No intentions of checking my boats as luggage though!)
KMOT - - if you are going to make the drive, could I send the Donzi and Prime Time with you?

Matt, seeing as how you can get a free ride worldwide, I am surprised you have not already flown to China to load up on some TianJie and Arkmodel boats!! :D
I was thinking of going up north, but there is a BBQ at the local flying field that the Valley Flyers is putting on so 5 miles versus 450 miles? Well........ :p

I just talked to my dad, he doesn't think he'll be down in time :( I will have it though so I can post pictures at least. I don't even think it's finished, I think he and I both lost interest before it was done. My plan is though to finish it this winter and maybe bring it to a regatta this Spring :D

Fishing type boats....more detail shots. Many of the boats had animated Hicks hit/miss engines with sound effects. Couple of Hartman hulls, couple of others(forget the maker). Most put detail into the gurdies or winches in the back of the boats. Still a few full size montereys actually floating around S.F. and down south. Rich history of the fishing fleet.

Now if a boat builder takes care his vessel will serve him well. If one wanders and drifts while at sea chances are you will come up between a rock and a hard place.
This is what happens if you drift backwards into a very hard barge moored to the dock.
What irritates me is the guy didn't even apologise for it :censored: :censored: . At least no damage to the barge....happy sailing pal. LOL
