Hey Guys
I was wondering if there are any systems for electronic air to air combat for r/c planes. I have heard of streamers, airwars, Top Gun, and the sonic combat module. But is there anything else? Anything DIY?
Thanks for the help!

you can use the AirCommander. It is a brilliant interface that will connect most any r/c electronics to the Sonic Combat Module. It also has a built in lost model locator. www.air-commander.com

I monitored with interest this (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=369727) thread. Unfortunately it died a slow death.
Then, I recently finally bit the bullet and bought the airwars twin pack. Finally installed the units on two SlowSticks and went outside for some combat with my co-worker...
Even if on the ground we get about 10ft range, we were not able to score any hit in the air, despite our efforts to make it easy. Parallax errors I'd say.
Bottomline is: an optical combat system is very hard to use. You'd probably need something to widen the light beam. At least the Sonic module works OK and nothing can beat streamers...
