Hi,
I'm evaluating sims to help me learn 3d flying without crashing my model too much. I'm looking into what seem to be the top 3 (in cost as well it seems !)
I've got the realflight demo (pretty good i think), I'm downloading the Reflex XTR one now, but I can't find a demo AFP Deluxe - is there one ?
thanks

Not sure if there is a demo for AFP Deluxe, but what I can link you is Clearview - www.rcflightsim.com - be sure to check it out as well. In fact, once you have it installed goto the "Demo" section and watch the recording of the shockflier - shows what 3D flying is like in Clearview.

Some sims provide demo videos rather than code, which might allow the demo to be hacked and thus defeats the efforts the manufacture takes to protect the application (the G3 demo being a prime example).
Most of the top five sims have been discussed over and over again on this forum. Reviews, comparasons, polls etc can all be found by using the search function at the top of this forum. In a nutshell:
Reflex XTR, G3, AFPD, Phoenix, Clerview - all photoreal type sims from £20 to £140
G2, FMS - all computer generated landscaped sims - Free to £50 second hand (interlink)
Googling for simulators will also turn up several other basic flight sims

just tried to run the reflex xtr demo - doesn't appear to be a keyboard mode or have i just not found it.
Surely they can't expect you to have a controller and/or cable for a download trial ?
anyone got the keyboard to work in the demo version ?

Quote from the Reflex homepage right above the download:
"This demo will let you check the sceneries, the models, the menues, the parameters and you can run the prerecorded flights.
For obvious reasons you are unable to control the model by keyboard, mouse or any kind of interface or joystick. The full version for the Reflex XTR model flight simulator comes with a USB interface to use your own radio."

Correction...you can in fact fly all of the models in the simulator as well as download new ones...although it is near impossible to fly the helicopters, the planes aren't that difficult...you have to set the channels and bring up the 'Channel Display' and control only the first 2 channels to fly the models...it is up to you how you want to configure the channels...I find it a lot more easy to fly the planes when you set the throttle and the elevator to channel 1, and set aileron to channel 2...set the first channel as stationary with whatever climb rate you want and just control the rest of the flight through your mouse, sliding channel 2 back and forth...gets kind of boring but still looks nice...

unfortunatley most sims wont allow input without their own dongle. For very good reason i think.
www.phoenix-sim.com has videos which show you the quality of the graphics.
if your machine meets the minimum specs it will run phoenix nicely.

Did KE/RF change the G3 to pure demo, no keyboard?

Probably,
Allegedly it was reported by a respectable member of an RC forum that it was a simple matter to modify a DLL file or something similar to make the "keyboard flyable demo" work with any "windows joystick" including several TX to PC interfaces that emulate this protocol ;) :D

It is soooo hard to find folks who cant build a better mousetrap. :) <VBG> Good thing the Internet caches code if respectable folks know where to look. LOL

Hey Malc - I just checked at RF/KE. The original is still up. So I guess some crafty person could, in theory, :) make it work with a tx that emulates a keyboard.
