View Full Version : The Revo and some ramblings

Seriously, I'm beginning to think this thing is invincible! It just takes
abuse day in, day out, no matter what I do it refuses to break in any way -
I just soaks it up and asks for more! Brilliant! I think the motor is
starting to show a few signs of wear (I notice stupidly short
recommendations from Traxxas - change the rod at 3 gallons or when you
change the P&L - whichever comes first! So the P&L might not last 3
gallons!). This is to be expected I suppose, I've thrown quite a bit of
fuel through it, and I dunno how much it had already had through, but it's
ok for now, just won't idle for more than about 10 seconds (a problem I
could probably fix with a little tuning....).

A few mods have arrived, scored a custom painted shell of eBay for £10 inc
postage, and the guy very generously threw in another bright orange shell
for free, also unused! Also, another pair of red pushrods to go on the
front are on the way, along with a new manifold (the one I have now is a bit
damaged) that is shiney adonised silver, and a resonator pipe - which Trx
claim gives me 20% more power below 15krpm and 10% more power above - I'll
let you know how that goes.

Went with a mate today on a short road trip to Ripon (60 miles away) to
collect another Revo he just bought on eBay for £220ukp with RB323 motor
fitted (also included a couple of shells, and the Trx 2.5R motor as well and
a load of other guff) - by hell that thing shifts. We were running it VERY
rich today, and it was blisteringly fast - looking forward to leaning that
right off... Pics and vids to follow naturally.

Sold the STS off, as I couldn't be bothered to fight with it anymore, and
put my old, slightly hammered K4.6 into the Savage again - it ran nicely,
till the screws holding the engine plate in came loose and I somehow managed
to half knacker the Robinson Racing clutchbell! Although the RR Spur gear
was ok (it just ate the CB....). Dunno how I acheived that to be honest.

Anyhoo - what has everyone else been up to RC related of late?

That TM323 really screams in the revo, doesn't it? My kid has one,, ,
wheelie machine. . .

I got a hyper7 off ebay a few weeks ago, and put the novarossi .28 in
it, , it's the engine I had in the MGT, makes it quick, fast, and mega
fun. Super easy engine to tune. Got ahold of an RB TM728 for the MGT,
, , ,which is hella fast, , but still won't make that pig wheelie, not
sure what that will take. .
The 728 runs great, , but gave me a bit of a scare, , ,one of my kid's
friends was driving it (I was driving the Hyper 7), and all at once it
had NO compression. . .plug was tight, engine not overly hot, no
leaking around head. . even went as far as to look up the price of a
P&S, , ,yikes, , $135 . . .Did a compression test with ARO in the
cylinder, , ,it all leaked out THROUGH the plug, swapped it out and
got all it's pop back.

In the meantime, the kid got a MBX off ebay, , that we've been less
than happy with. To start, the seller listed flat rate for priority
mail, , then sent it "media mail" or something like that. instead of
taking 3 days, it took almost 3 weeks. Came with a force .26 that the
seller said "screams", , ,ok, maybe if you mean the compression
SCREAMING out the cylinder past the piston. Kinda guessed the engine
would be worn because we got the whole thing RTR for about $150.00.,
so I pretty much expected it to be not so good, but this is a bit
excessive. This thing has the 2-speed center gearbox upgrade. . .not
liking it AT ALL. inconsistant shifts, when it actually does, , ,and
the gear mesh, as someone here pointed out, , is a bit weird. It
doesn't help that I shoehorned an associated .28 (from the MGT) in it,
but there is still a bit of weirdness, much of it I think is the
trans. The kid has a center diff on it's way. . .

Also, got some diff oil (1,3,&10k) to replace the 120,000k stuff in
the hyper, , gotta go do that now. .. L8r

RB engines are pretty sold as a rule IME.

I had a Protech badged mBX (exactly the same buggy, just sold in this
country as a Protech). Don't be too upset about the lack of compression on
the Force, they're crap anyway :-). Quite a solid buggy though, does the
job well.

Not a huge amount, my Tamiya Thunder Nitro buggy and TT DT-10 have been
collecting dust since I got the MTA-4 .28. I love it so much, and whilst I
can only compare it to the first two cars I mentioned, it RIPS them apart in
terms of speed, jumps and general bashibility. I have taken it to the local
CONCRETE skatepark a few times, and gone for some wicked jumps. I have had
some VERY VERY nasty landings, as in, head first into concrete and about 6
vertical flips across solid stone ground - not even a dent so far.

I did manage to break the "stick attached between the front suspension and
front wheel" after thinking I was in reverse and going straight into a solid
wall. £6.99 and 20 minutes, all fixed.

Took it out a few nights ago to race my friends DT-10. We crashed. His car
suffered two broken front suspensions, and the very thin stick which moves
when you accelerate snapped too. My truck just carried on laughing its arse
off :)

His MTA-4 will arrive today or tomorrow, can't wait to have some real
battles!!!

Beating the tar out of my Tmaxx 3.3 which also seems industructable
(except for motor mounts and hinge pins.. lol).

Hitting firepits made out of brick at full speed.. well, that'll break a
hingepin. But nothing else!

Landing on the lid after 8 foot jumps. That tends to break motor
mounts. Nothing else! :)

Got it tuned pretty good now. Wheelies are inconsistent... not sure
what's up with that. I'm just gonna drive it now instead of trying to
get the super perfect tune. :)

Gone through 1.75 gallons so far. Lasted longer than my 1st when the rod
went at 1.5 gallons.... ugh.. that was a mess. Too many high speed runs
in the grass I guess.. lol!

Probably a clutch/clutchbell issue, ,, The revo 2.5 had a fairly weenie
clutch

Ya, just put on a new clutch and spring (stock). Didn't seem to help
much. Maybe I should have sanded the inside of the clutch bell while I
had it out.. forgot. :)
