hi, i am thinking of getting into turbines in the future and was wondering how you start a turbine like a jetcat p70, which is the turbine i'm thinking of right now. it has a starter, so i'm guessing you press a button on the electronic controller, having connected a can or camping gas (propane ?) to the appropriate connector. also kerosine ? should i get this from the lhs, i take it this is not gasoline from the gas station. or jet - a1, can you get this from an lhs ? i live in a small city in ne Japan and the guys at my club fly 4s glow pattern planes mostly and i don't think anyone knows anything about turbines (i might be wrong) and also my Japanese isn't very good. there's quite a good lhs here but the guy has to order most things, but people in Japan do fly turbines so i guess i could get fuel. anyway i am totally a beginner in this reguard so i hope you will bear with me. thanks

As far as I know you can only use AVTUR or Kerosene as thats what the guys in my local club run in their jets. I could be wrong though but have yet to see them using diesel!

The Jetcat P-70, as most turbines, will run on jet A, or K1 kerosene. The guys in England also run them on heating oil I believe. You must mix a quart of turbine oil with 5 gallons of kero. To start you simply advance your throttle trim to high, move the stick to full and back to idle, and the turbine will start. The propane is stored in a small onboard tank, or you can use a hand held can and disconnect after start. You can also opt for the kero start option, and then no gas mix is needed. The start gas is really not propane, but a mixture of propane and butane. We use Coleman powermax here in the states. Turbines are really very user friendly, and easy to operate. Bob

Buy one, read the manual that Jetcat sends you and start it up. You'll never look back!

safety is #1 here as these turbines are by far the most dangerous aspect of this great hobby..we are talking 3 to 4 thousand [U]revolutions a second, thats a second!!!!!!!!
I highly encourage you to read, read, read anything and everything, and talk to as many people as you can before even thinking about firing one of these turbines. not sure about regulations in japan on rc turbines..Hopefully there is something similar to a "turbine waiver" we have here in the states..
please use extreme caution..
