I'm kinda looking at this:
http://www.acehardwarehobbies.com/2.2/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=88_478_126_230&products_id=5731
But I don't really understand.. . .does it automatically shift like
monster truck transmissions do, , or is it manual? I notice something
in the pics that look like ball-swivels, ,, not sure how it all works.
... Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

It will automatically shift when a certain rpm is reached.
I don't suggest using these style 2 speeds for for offroad use in a buggy. I
have seen two sets of them for the 9.5 shred already. (part #40111)
They seem to hold up for onroad where backlash is at a minimum. If you look
at the spurs notice how thin they are compared to the clutch bell. The spurs
only ride on about 1/3rd of the bells teeth.

I'm not a huge fan of the dual-gear clutchbell/spur combos myself; gear mesh
is never quite right. Also, on vehix with a center diff methinks the gear
operation might be a little bit irregular d/t f/r rotational differences.
