Could anyone suggest a good quality high start for a 3m? I have a Majestic that I should finish fairly soon. Do not know what it will weigh. I have done some of the Drela mods, but will retain the stock boom and have stretched the wing two bays each side.

1/8th ID with 1/8th wall works great.

I use a large "Pinnacle" hi-start, available from NSP. It not only does a great job of hauling up the big stuff, but also does an admirable job of ripping the wings off of the smaller ones when I'm too lazy get out or forgot to bring the correct hi-start. All of the components are top quality. I've had mine for years, and it's still in perfect condition.
I strongly suggest that you invest in one of the screw-in style steel stakes to replace the large metal one commonly supplied with all hi-starts. I believe they're sold in pet supply shops to anchor dog leashes.

I use a 3M high start from Mark at Aerofoam....I highly recommend it, and Mark was excellent to work with.....

Excellent quality, incredible power, and Mark even built the bungee and line in sections for me so I could shorten it up if need be for smaller fields, smaller ships, etc. The hardward & chute are very good quality.

Here is an email we traded when I was shopping for mine....good luck!! JF.

You can use either the 3m highstart or the 4m unlimited.

The unlimited will give a stronger launch capable of a harder zoom at the end. Many people don't like having to work that hard and opt for the 3m rubber because it is easier to stretch out and launches the plane almost as high as the 4m. rubber.

The 3m rubber will generate about 18lbs. of pull, the unlimited will generate about 24lbs. You need 3 to 5 times the weight of the plane in launch force for an adequate launch. Another consideration is if you fly with guys that have smaller planes. The 3m rubber will launch many smaller composite planes, but the 4m might fold them up.

If the zoom is important or you plan on launching larger heavier planes(above 70oz.) the 4m might be the better choice.

Subject: Recommendation

We fly a 3 meter molded sailplane called the Fazer...

Can you recommend a hi-start for this plane, and other 3M molded competition, thermal duration ships like it?

Like Speedo, I have the large Pinnacle. It also hauls my 4-meter stuff up.

Mark is on my very short preferred supplier list.

I also highly recommend the 3m (1/8") HoseMonster.

Mark is great to deal with and the equipment is top-notch.

I've pulled my 93 oz 145" Genie (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5864975&postcount=189) in no wind with this histart.

I have a Majestic that I launch with a 4m Hosemonster. Launches very well. I also use the same histart with a 2m Art Hobby Boar with no problems (obviously, I don't stretch it as much)

The standard at out club seems to be the NESailplanes Pinnacle. Their large is the one recommended for 3M and works well.

I have have XL which is rated to 4M, yet I use it to launch my 2M Spirit as well. I just don't pull it back as far.

If you want a real bear strong hi-start, then get the XL. This is like a winch on a rubber reel.
$110. At full pull she has about 30 pounds of pull. At my club they call it the bear!
