In the 914 thread, buried in the middle, Bernard asked a question about the RC laser. I recently sold a Victoria, and bought a Laser. here are my reasons......

It took me two months of off and on building in the evenings to get the Vic in the water. With the Laser the only thing I had to do was re-seat the deckplate with 4200, and stick on the sail numbers.

When I go to the lake to sail, the Laser travels much better. When we go camping on the weekend It is much eaiser to transport. (Wife is much happier)

It doesn't bug me that I can't pick it up by the mast - I usually sail from docks so it's not a problem.

The Victoria had numerious adjustments on rig tension and sail control (Topping lift, jib halyard, backstay, lowwers & Uppers, Vang, Outhaul, Cunningham. ) The Laser has two, Outhaul and Cunningham. I like the simplicity, eliminating variables makes for closer racing, meaning tactics are at a premium.

I want to sail not do boat work...the Laser class rule prohibit hull/blade polishing.

Yes, it may not be a sexy as the Vic, but I am of the mind set that if we are all racing el toros or cal 20's we are all going slow evenly.

Cheers

John, and all,
I agree, I have an R/C Laser, a Victoria, and others, The R/C Laser is the easiest to pack, transport, setup, rig, and race boat I've got. And with all three sail rigs, I can sail it in whispers to gales. I still like my other boats, but you can't beat the portability of the R/C Laser, espescially with the optional carrying bag.

I have sailed it in saltwater and fresh water and it's the lowest maintenance boat I've got. Shoot, the most work I've done on it is mark the sails...<G>

As I'm in the process of buying a Laser could someone tell me how fast it sails compared to the CR and Victoria sailboats? Is it a boat that with the standard sail will sail as fast as the Victoria and CR914 in light breezes? Just wondering what I can expect from it performance wise compared to other sailboats.
Thanks--Bernard

It really is a nice boat. The only real reason I'm selling mine to Bernard is that I just like a more classic looking boat. It's weird, I have to like the way a boat looks as much as the way it sails.

My Eclipse hull is just begging me to get to work on it. I think it will be beautiful when done.

Also a fellow sailor is getting the same great deal on the boat as i did. So everybody wins~~

Now back to my real passion of installing a turbocharger on my Del Sol---Rob
