Hello-

In the Bandit Hotliner thread, I was impressed by the value of the Bandit Power Set offered at Aero-Model, consisting of an Opto 70A ESC, A30XL8, and the recommended prop blades of 13" x 11". It was a great deal for $189.99 shipped!

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6017344&postcount

I installed the power set in my Bandit prior to heading to Soar Utah, incase of light winds....Good thing I did, there wasn't too much lift.

Anyhow, in the post, they stated that the setup was for 3S 4000MaH LiPo's, but that 10 cell NiMH's had been used also with good results. I wanted some weight in the plane, so ordered 10 x GP 2200's...

The amp draw static, fresh off the charger is 60 amps! with that prop. Paperwork with that motor recommends 45A burst. I'm wondering if the motor will unload that much in the air, or would you now recommend going to a different sized prop, say 12 x 10, or ???

I only flew once with that prop, performance was spectacular. I switched to a 11 x 8, that is the next prop I had avaialable to me at the time. I didn't really like that too much, not enough ummph.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Target

Target,

The system has worked great for us as a Hotliner motor. The key is to do 5-10 sec. climbs and shut down with brake engaged. Soar around for a little while, then repeat. If you run this system for extended periods without letting it rest between climbs it could lead to an overheat condition.

We have run this system in a Bandit type aircraft in hot weather, 100 degrees plus with no problems. If you would like to reduce the current try the Aero-naut 12 X 9 cam prop.

Hi, Kyna-

I guess what I'm really asking is what the max amps in bursts I should be running through that motor?
I had someone tell me that I should watch the total input watts more than the amps.
Also, how much do you think the motor unloads in flight? Surely the amp draw is less, even in a vertical climb, than the draw static with a meter hooked to it.

Basically, I want to know if I should keep the 13 x 11, or prop down a little. The performance sure is nice set up as is....

Thanks,
