For those of us who are getting soaked right now because of Ernesto you can voice it here. If you still have internet that is. I woke up this morning and could not see across the street!! But the Navy wants us all ot drive to the ship that is not even operational right now and risk our lives out on the road. Good Times!!
The good thing about this is that the lake I sail on will be a little higher. The heat wave that seems to be a constant here in VA has made the beach larger and the lake smaller by alot. well got to run see ya all if I make it back from the ship

Thank God for the rain. A Drought was never officially mentioned this Summer but it was here just the same. A no fire ban as many months as we had was a sure indicator of drought like conditions.
Lakes and ponds here used mainly for farms were pretty low. The occasional rain we would get just didn't do anything to help alleviate the dusty conditions.
I just heard on the radio that the Va. Beach area is on the look out for a tornado. One more reason not to be out driving. If you do have to report for duty take it easy when you go out. Even if you think you can handle the weather driving you don't know who else is on the road that can't.
As long as the lights stay on this is a good day to build boats. If you're in the path of Ernesto be safe.

Good luck guys, and stay indoors if you can. Even the tail end of a hurricane can make things tough.

Well the Captian of the Truman relieved the ship today of everyone except Duty personnel. That ment that 3000 other people were trying to get out of the base that had only ONE of THREE gates open. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Plus to top this all off the tunnels that 80% of the ship need to travel through were gong to close in about an hour and a half. Sailors with low rider cars driving through 2 feet of water dont make things go any better either (water in the base parking lot was up to my knees and I am 6foot tall) Thankfully I drive a Chevy Avalanche so I had plenty of clearance. My local lake is defidently full now I was able to take a peek at it as I came home. Virginia beach is really windy so the tornados are prolly going to happen. Tornados here are not as distructive as the ones in the midwest tho so no real worries there. The biggest problem here is flooding. Most of downtown Portsmuth is under a foot or so of water (I know I just left there). I could have taken Kate with me and about sailed her all the way to the freeway with the amount of water on the roads. Well enough ranting for now I hope everyone that is in the Ernesto path of flood will stay dry.

You guys back there take it easy and be safe! :) Getting ready to enjoy some sun and warm temps ( 80's) here in the northern part of Puget Sound for the 3 day weekend! :D Might have to go run a boat for ya and wish you could be enjoying it as well.

I am just sitting back and watching it rain. Ernesto has been downgraded now to a tropical depression. The roads have quite a lot of water on them at this point. The drainage ditches are full and running quite fast.
All this is a much welcomed break from the high temps we have had the last several months. My lawn has actually turned green over night.
But as far as going out in this, no way. I have enough food and water to last a month if need be.
Yes enjoy running a boat and the good weather you are having. This will all change by tuesday and we will be back in the heat by then.

well when you guys stateside get a rumble up the coast, it sometimes gets felt here, not heavy winds, but slightly higher than normal, still at least it isnt as bad as kat was last year.
so whilst you cant get outside, perhaps its a good opportunity to get building done ;)

Sounds like I should be able to sail my boats in the streets by Saturday in Pennsylvania. I guess if I can't get to water, I can have the water come to me!
Isn't it ironic we have no rain for three months, then Labor Day weekend we get all the rain at once!

Running a boat for me will be great but I would rather be enjoying the Puget Sound!! That is my home and I miss it. I HATE!!!! Virginia

Hi All,
Well, we got rained on all of yesterday, which was probably the fringes of Ernesto, and it has stopped now. Looks like the sun is making an effort to come out, but we'll see.
We have had regular rain up here in upstate New York for a good part of the summer, leaving a green lawn for a change, which for August, we haven't seen in years.
But Empirebuilder is right about the irony of Labor Day weekend being crappy.
It seems it's all too often the case on a much-awaited holiday---.
