I've got one of the Esky "dummy" radios(sim use only, no tx) for use with FMS. Unfortunately it is the serial version and my new computer doesn't have a serial port. What would be involved in modifying the "radio" for usb use? Would it be as simple as an adaptor cable? Thanks in advance

E-Sky has dedicated USB cables (http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/product.asp?numPageStartPosition=1&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&strSearchCriteria=&PT_ID=90&P_ID=138).

Firstly you could try a simple RS232 to USB adaptor to see if that works, most are simply a USB plug wired to a 15 pin serial connector, so some computers will not recognise it. The alternative requires the programming of a PIC microchip to read the potentiometrs (joysticks) and then send the data to the PC in the format of standard windows joystick protocol
To be honest, you would be better off buying a TX to PC USB interface and using a cheap basic 4ch transmitter
