View Full Version : Idea Making a cheesy pool boat less 'cheesy'!

I bought one of these 1/25 scale Nkok boats a couple years back. It was the "Fire Boat" version. Pretty cheesy. It has languished in its box for a long time and today I decided to grab it off the shelf and do something with it. My motivation is my grand daughter. She has been learning to run a Reef Racer 2 in the pool. I figured when she 'graduated' from that she could run a cruiser in its place. The stickers actually may have impressed her, but probably not. In any case, they bothered me so off they came. Same with the cheesy fire monitor. I also moved the 'radar' from in front of the canopy to on top of the electronics wing and also cut it in half and used the bottom part to make a GPS dome. I have painted the red railing with silver paint, and it will need a couple more coats. Since this is 1/25 scale it should be easy to find some 'people' for it. One of those Disney princesses would be just the ticket.

Anyway, just by removing the stickers it made a big difference in toning down the 'cheesy' look and making it almost presentable. :D

Oh. Lol. They sell it on eBay for like ninety-nine cents.

Yeah sure, but did you check the shipping charge? That is where the "real" price is.

BTW, yesterday evening I put this boat in the pool and motored around for awhile with it. It was actually rather soothing, since it is so slow. And scale looking speed. I think it must be similar to those plastic models that get converted to r/c and use those dinky motors?

I have been thinking about a boat like this for my son too. But he is 6mo. old it will be a while before I need one. I dont think that I could just leave it on a shelf unmolested either so no use buying it now.

Looks good tho Kmot, Alot more realistic than the original "Fire Boat" Last time I checked fire boats resembled tugs not cabin cruisers.

indeed, the only things that sometimes look like cabin cruiers, (and i use "look like" in a loose manner) and work for a living are pilot cutters,
