i have looked through troubleshooting and tried cleaning disk and enlarging my hard drivee :C harddisk memory - i have a decent graphics card and am using windows xp home on A fairly modern computer with 19'' screen
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c380/jon8889/desktop.jpg
after installing the little first bit along with direct x - it goes to the desktop and the g2 icon is on the desktop-
it then goes onto the final installation from disk which is about 600 mb but it only gets to 482.2 mb and comes up with this error-
at first it went to 471.3 and that was it and come with error so i cleaned disk and delleted allot from hard drive and only gets a little further-
its strange - i have 98.8 GB free hard drive space////////
help me please to get it going so i dont have to send it back to the previous owner- i wanna use it
thanks

Try to increase the swap file, or empty the temp folder (C:\windows\TEMP)
Disable any anti-virus software whilst installing, and end task any applications that you don't really need (like all those that reside on the task bar)

Yeah, if you try that it should work.

It looks ("bytes read = -1") to me like it's having problems _reading_ the data, not writing it, and that the error text is misleading.
Search for the error (KEError 39842) on google - you'll find this

Weird how that link now points to a completely different thread :/ (even though I think you read it when it was OK).
Anyway - if you're lucky the only thing the installation had to do was copy these files. You might be able to copy them "by hand", assuming it's obvious what to copy and where to put it. This would also confirm to you that there really is hard-drive space available.
I'm just guessing - I don't have RF. It might be that there's some processing RF installation has to do after copying the file.

oh no - i can copy most of the sims files ''by hand '' except the important one as in the picture it only goes so far .. but i tried manually copying this one too - and would only go so far just like the auto installing -
so you think it is hard to read this file? you mean the disc is no good? - would a disk cleaner scratch filler work??? please please i really want to get this going - i paid for it and dont want to waste it -
i was really looking forward to it ....
please any other help - will disk cleaner work

That sounds bad. If you can I'd try copying this particular CD on a different computer - in particular, on a computer with a different CD/DVD reader, since if there's a small scratch on the disk some readers will deal with it better than others. If you find a machine that will read it you could either borrow that machine's reader, or use that machine to burn a copy of the disk.
I've never tried any commercial cleaner stuff, other than gently wiping CDs (from the middle to outside, not in circles) with a soft cloth.

Hello
Will you share a little information about your computer with us?
What memory do you have?
What graphics card do you have?
Are you running SP1 or SP2?
What processor are you running?
All this can be found out by clicking the "System" icon in the "Control Panel" located on the "Start" menu.
What is your PF Usage? (Ctrl, Alt Delete and click performance tab)
I know what all your icons are on your taskbar eccept for the "M" one what is that. The rest should not affect the install apart from Real Player close that, i know of past issues where realplayer trys to open and install win rars and win zips.
Thanks
